Re: Site ads
I’d be delighted to offer $100 to the insult Nick man fund
Re: Site ads
I’m going to hand these insult donations out instead of Christmas presents for my co-workers, George Costanza style.

Your parents call you The Nickman?
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

Re: Site ads
I think we have worked out how to switch off the overlay, pop up ads. So hopefully, they are now less intrusive for users. Any further feedback welcomed.

Re: Site ads
Let's pass the bucket. I'd gladly chip in to not see ads.
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

The ads need to go. Start a fund for donations to cover costs.

Re: Site ads
Just because I want to be honest about the whole thing - The ads were getting so annoying I had to remove the GH from the ad blocker whitelist I usually have it on.
I am more than happy to donate some cash, maybe via Patreon (so a few dollars a month so it's on an-going thing), etc. I just don't want to have to scroll twice as far per post to read. It's even worse on mobile where the ads move buttons around just before you go to press them, the page keeps shifting and resizing around, pressing the post button doesn't work 50% of the time. All those problems gone now I've put the ad blocker back on.

Re: Site ads
Sorry, about that. We have cut anchor ads (pop ups at the bottom and top) and vignettes (ads which block the screen entirely until you close or click). It probably costs the revenue by half, but we were hoping it was a reasonable balance. Thanks for the donation offer, but it’s probably something we’d prefer to avoid administering. The existing workload is getting pretty high.
