Jets, Bears or Reds? WA Premier outlines his hopes for Perth’s NRL expansion bid

Western Australia premier Roger Cook, self-confessed rugby league tragic, has told NRL clubs to “suck it up princess” and get used to travelling as Perth step up their case to be part of an expanded NRL competition.

“The message to NRL teams on the east coast is to suck it up princess,” Cook said. “If you want to be part of a national code you have to have Western Australia as part of your competition. Travelling to WA is part of that.”

Not content with just being part of a new-look competition Cook spoke about his desire to host more NRL events including Magic Round, the pathway programs in schools they have set up and talks of a possible partnership with Newtown or North Sydney.

'Games being played': John Singleton takes aim at North Sydney Bears and WA government as Jets bid dies

Newtown's plan to become part of Perth's NRL bid has ended after businessman John "Singo" Singleton confirmed the club has pulled out of the running. The Jets emerged as a shock contender in the race for the NRL's 18th team, and were prepared to join forces in the west.

However, The Sydney Morning Herald revealed a text message from Singleton had ended all hopes as the iconic businessman took a shot at the North Sydney Bears in the process. The Bears are likely to join forces with Perth, instead of the Jets.

NRL 360 just isn't the same anymore. Braith is alright and has certainly improved, but Ikin was much better. Gordie is just a creepy looking numbskull and isn't a patch ol tree hugging Kenty.

360 was better when it was mostly PK and Ikin.

Now it's just a News Corp headline jibber fest.
I liked Crawley, but can't stand Buzz or Read.
The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

NRL Hall of Fame inductee and former ABC sports broadcaster David Morrow dies at 71

David Morrow, who has died at the age of 71, has been described as one of the great voices of rugby league. Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

Papua New Guinea’s successful bid set for formal announcement

Papua New Guinea will finally and formally be announced as the venue to host an NRL club after Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese and PNG counterpart James Marape intensified negotiations about rugby league expansion in recent weeks. PNG will target entry for the 2028 season but insist the country would be ready for 2027. That decision will be made by the NRL.

“It’s imminent. We are tying up the loose ends now to formalise it. It’s getting near, it’s becoming a reality,” said Papua New Guinea bid chairman Wapu Sonk, who is also managing director of Kumul Petroleum. “There is corporate support and infrastructure. As we enter the final stages we will commence more formal discussions with the corporate sponsors.

I really worry about the talent pool if they get to 19 or 20 teams. It was a really terrible comp post superleague. To me, PNG will at least be able to be partially home grown if they can overcome all their other issues. I'd think at least half can be local players with a good pathways system, there is a lot of raw talent there. Perth I think will be the NRL's GWS/Suns. NZ2 would've been ideal to me because it will produce a lot of players.

I wonder if the NRL will look at a play in tournament for the finals once they get to 19. I read the AFL is already considering it.
