Weekes

Post by IBG »

Wanted to give him a wrap as I feel like he hasn't gotten much credit.

He's playing in a position he's never played before, he was mainly a fullback previously.

He's super composed and has a much better kicking game on him than I thought. Very quick too, and been very solid defensively.

I think he would make an excellent 14 long term.

Say what you want about Stuart but he obviously fills these young halves with plenty of confidence.

I gotta give a lot of credit to the coaching staff
His long kicking game is terrific and he didn’t come here with that so great job by him and the coaches working on that
It’s quite impressive
His speed is a real asset, shifty ball runner and good sense of how to beat defenders

He’s a bit shaky defensively but he works hard and he’s willing to throw his body into it.

He is a really good player. I like his composure and speed. I wouldn’t mind seeing how he goes at hooker when Fogarty gets back, given that’s what he was doing at manly.

Good call IBG. I thought his defence was really good tonight. Good combination with Timoko and EW on a very potent dogs edge. Didn't overplay his hand either. Well done Kaeo.

He has stood up twice in really crucial games now. He should be in the discussion to fit him next year regardless of who else is fit.

Could build a career at fullback.

I thought in pre-season he was a fullback.
But as I’ve watched he’s probably more of a fullback right now.
With a couple years of development he could lift his defence and confidence to challenge for spots in the halves. He kicks confidently.

Once we get Sanders and we actually have some depth in the halves. He could prepare in preseason for a shot at fullback. In fact that’s probably what will happen pre-season ‘25

If we had a decent 80 minute hooker he'd be a killer 14. The sort of guy who could win you a big game off the bench.

He has a great temperament for a half doesn’t seem flustered or bothered by his mistakes

Probably a better fit as a FB but bench utility would great

Didn’t someone say here that he was passing off the ground better than Starling? Now that isn’t saying much given Starling’s little T rex arms can’t generate any power, but could fill in at hooker

Half back is his spot to lose now. Offers more than Fogarty with a higher ceiling. Sanders may have a battle on his hands. This kid can be a gun!

Camera in the sheds before the game players were passing and Starling was goofing around throwing gridiron passes. He needs to practice his passing more than anyone

Spot on Billy I noticed that too.

Totally agree. Seems like he can fill in anywhere in the backline, and can come on and cause some headaches.

Weekes looks good but I am not convinced he is a half back.

He did make one big blue tonight. He threw the ball away on the last tackle instead of kicking. It goes to Kikau who passes to Addo-Carr who makes a break and we lose 2, concede 14 and don’t touch the ball for 15 mins.

He's got some toe, I was always told wet Weekes were slow.
Does deserve a shoutout though (and probably fair call from bot to give the coaching staff some kudos as well). I was pretty meh on him from the pre season but he's done incredibly well in position where slip ups and going missing/over playing, stand out for all to see.

I love his composure. He seems like he is naturally a very chilled guy.

I think we can safely say that the 6 position has gone to Strange so we really need to be looking at finding him a spot in the 17.

At full strength he is a chance at Fullback or utility.

He jumped into dummy half a few times last night and provided much better service than dumb and dumber.

Winx is the perfect back up half/FB, and a good option as 14 if we’re at full strength.

Agree. If he can work on his positioning and talk he could blossom into an excellent fullback.

It might be a waste of his talent, but he’d be an awesome winger in the sniffing around the ruck and backing up a break Brett Morris style of winger. Similar to what he did on the Mooney offload.

Thought Starling played well, and I’m a not massive fan-other than his defence.
Levi on the other hand is just utter trash. Think Kaeo would be great in any spine position

He has played well the last 2 weeks.
Loved his speed , he hit another gear when he came to Mahoney left him clutching air.

Image how our halves would look with a decent hooker.

See what you mean- the speed, good all round skills- close to good enough to be a starting #1/6/7/9 (and maybe wuld have been at plenty of clubs) . Be amazing if he could develop that way but Wing is just about the goat #14 you'd ever hope for.

I wonder if he'd be happy with that or if he'd rather have a red hot crack at being a FB or half somewhere.

Like others I've been impressed and he's exceeded my expectations.
