Tomorrows weekly pressa with Mr Annesley promises to be the best yet.

Multiple demotions and plenty of tripping over ones own tongue.

He hung Casey Badger out to dry over a player being one step offside for a charge down on a slow motion replay in Golden Point. Something that every rugby league fan knows happens regularly.

Annesley certainly didn’t do her any favours putting her back in charge of a game just a few weeks later.

‘High profile Queensland NRL player’ reportedly accused of rape

Reports have emerged that a “high profile” Queensland-based NRL player has been accused of rape on Tuesday night. Nine Queensland first reported the allegation was made by a woman to police on Tuesday night. The Courier Mail further reported the player is “high-profile”. The SMH reported the NRL is aware of the allegations.

That sounds like a terrible story emerging.

Let’s hope high profile means high profile, not someone who’s never played at a representative level.

The media often refers to “NRL player charged by police” and it’s a jersey flegg player for Bulldogs who drove without a licence, etc.

Noticed this too. I didn’t realise he was carrying any type of injury.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Why Schuster’s million-dollar loss was worth it

Josh Schuster has opened up on having his $3 million NRL contract torn up by the Manly Sea Eagles and a two-year mental health battle that has put his footy career at risk. In a surprise admission, he says: “Stepping away from the game has made me the happiest I’ve been for a long while.” No pressure, no spotlight, no body shaming, no social media abuse.

It’s not a sound basis for establishing an NRL team. $60 million for ten years? It’ll probably be one of the first programs to be cut with a change of government. Meanwhile, just to set the team up in PNG, they need to set up a special secure compound for the team and families to live in and the team to train in. There are no extra broadcast dollars. The stadium is not great. The government funding is not for the team, as I understand it, but to develop pathways. It doesn’t add up.

I genuinely believe there is not a single NRL standard player who’d even consider playing for them. They may entice reserve graders to gamble on kickstarting a career or some washed up mercenaries at best.

They’ve had what is essentially a PNG all stars team in the QCup for 12 years (not even the second strongest competition in Australia) and they’ve made one grand final. For all of their passion as a rugby league nation they really haven’t produced many NRL standard players.

No 17-33 year old whose minimum wage is 150k at worst is going to go live in prison and get bashed week in week out for more money and tax breaks imo.

I’m actually annoyed that journos haven’t questioned it’s viability harder.

Utterly embarrassing.

And they’ll continue to throw more and more money at it because it’s the ‘feel good’ thing to do.

Totally agree

This is a political move, and a waste of money.

This is solely a political move to hold off the Chinese into PNG.
League is a national sport for them so they value this highly.
The NRL do this for the Australian Government will probably lead to some funding to the game here , there has to be a financial gain for the game.

I agree with the above , as a rugby league venture I see this as a failure.

What happens when the government changes and they pull the funding?

The NRL will be stuck with this club that costs a bomb to fund, considering additional expenses like the military for PNG games.

It's a stupid idea, Perth or Adelaide should be first.

Huge risk.
Don't know if there is contract that the Government has to pay out if it's broken.

Perth and NZ are my options . Even another QLD team before PNG.
