That ends this week's edition of Billy saying the same thing in a slightly different way.

That this will take a while before it's resolved. Which is kinda obvious to everyone. There's a fair bit at stake here. The Nickman wrote: ↑March 5, 2024, 10:28 amWhat’s his actual beef with this situation?Northern Raider wrote:That ends this week's edition of Billy saying the same thing in a slightly different way.

Forum - "take your time, it's a sensitive situation"
Billy - "get this **** off the books already, any way, any how"
If it was Danny Levi, the situation would be different

The Raiders cannot do anything but what they are doing. They're acting responsibly and with an appropriate level of care for one of their players. If Corey needs to medically retire, his contract will be paid out by the NRL's insurers, and the club will receive salary cap relief. Any other pay out arrangement between the parties would result in a charge to the Raiders' salary cap. What the club is doing is the obvious sensible and caring thing.

Personally i think we blantantly breach the salary cap and risk crippling points deductions and massive fines and simply give the man a duffle bag full of high valued goods and cash.
A Gucci bag with the deed to a house, keys to a BMW, speed boat and 500k cash should solve this problem for us. Right Billy?

Re: Raiders star's career remains in limbo nine months after terrifying seizure
Finally someone talking sense. But seriously, when it’s Boyd Cordner or other clubs in similar predicaments the matter gets resolved. The medical advice is in. The bloke isn’t playing NRL for us again. The issue is he is refusing to accept the advice. That is a view that needs to be changed because on a tight NRL list there is no room for an individual to pursue an expense fairytale. When CHN see sense on where he is at, then it should be easy to pressure the NRL to pony up with a settlement. But we are raiders so it will be a passive approach that goes where it goes and won’t be resolved anytime soon. But that is the caring thing to do.Botman wrote: ↑March 23, 2024, 7:47 pm Personally i think we blantantly breach the salary cap and risk crippling points deductions and massive fines and simply give the man a duffle bag full of high valued goods and cash.

The Club doctors would want to make a decision based on facts. They will want to see how CHN trains with the defibrillator, how he goes in contact situations and how he is mentally prepared for both Rugby League contact during a match and if he has recovered mentally from the on field seizure to be able to play. It will be up to the Club doctors to set the timeframe around their 'play or don't play' decision. In the meantime CHN has a contract to say he doesn't have to make a decision to anyone's timeframe but his own.greeneyed wrote: ↑February 23, 2024, 5:07 am 'There is no reason why he shouldn't be able to go back': Cardiologist backs Raiders' return with defibrillator
A leading Canberra cardiologist has backed Corey Harawira-Naera to return to the NRL, despite concerns about playing a contact sport with a defibrillator inserted under his skin. ANU Associate Professor Rajeev Pathak said Harawira-Naera's underlying heart condition would be the main concern.
"There are lots of stories, lots of European [soccer] league games where people had that and they had the device and they returned to the professional level," he said. "Yes, there is a small risk of injury and they need to probably try to protect that area - put some padding or something."

Red - Do you think we will see CHN play first grade again? Billy, you need to stop making claims about a person’s medical assessments, which you don’t have knowledge of. It’s not appropriate. The other thing you’re not comprehending (or are deliberately obfuscating on) is that if you do what you’re suggesting, you don’t have any dollars in the salary cap to spend on anyone else. The pay out gets charged to the salary cap.

Canberra Raiders forward Corey Harawira-Naera seeks second opinion in bid to save NRL career
Corey Harawira-Naera is seeking a second opinion in a bid to keep his NRL career alive. Harawira-Naera has had a defibrillator inserted in his chest to help with his underlying heart condition. While there have been cases of professional soccer players continuing their careers with a defibrillator, no one has been cleared to play a collision sport like rugby league at the elite level. The 28-year-old has been cleared to increase his training intensity, but gaining a medical clearance for contact has proved problematic.

And doesn't mean the club doctor/NRL will accept this opinion.

Re: Raiders star's career remains in limbo nine months after terrifying seizure
CHN is perfectly entitled to get a second opinion… and there will certainly be more than one sought if this goes down the route of medical retirement. The club and everyone involved just need to go through the processes. It’s important it’s done well and exhaustively. The player deserves due process, given the implications for his career and his life.
There will be salary cap relief for the club if he’s medically retired. If the club pays him out without going through due process, there won’t be salary cap relief. So it’s a pretty straightforward choice for all concerned.

Re: Raiders star's career remains in limbo nine months after terrifying seizure
This is starting to look bleak for Corey, I think it's just too big of a risk for the club and the player overall, I would definitely be preparing an application for a salary cap exemption and a payout for Corey, whether that's insurance or not, it needs to cover his income until an agreed retirement age, most forwards play until around 35, he's 28, so it would need to cover 7 years of wages to set him up for life after footy, 500k or there abouts per year, so I think he should get around the 3.5m mark to retire.
It happened at work with no pre existing condition or injury.
So that's gotta be fair to the player

Re: Raiders star's career remains in limbo nine months after terrifying seizure
I don’t think anyone here has any idea about whether his condition is pre-existing or not. No one here knows or should know his private medical details. But the club certainly is not responsible for anything other than CHN’s existing contract. If he’s medically retired, it will be an insurance payout, and that’s for the NRL’s insurers to pay, whatever the entitlement is.cat wrote: ↑March 30, 2024, 6:42 pmWhy should the club pay him for longer than his contract?Neeeegz wrote: ↑March 30, 2024, 6:25 pm This is starting to look bleak for Corey, I think it's just too big of a risk for the club and the player overall, I would definitely be preparing an application for a salary cap exemption and a payout for Corey, whether that's insurance or not, it needs to cover his income until an agreed retirement age, most forwards play until around 35, he's 28, so it would need to cover 7 years of wages to set him up for life after footy, 500k or there abouts per year, so I think he should get around the 3.5m mark to retire.

That is all assuming that this condition causes him to retire within the timeframe of his current contract. It’s not impossible that his medical journey may extend over the course of the remainder of his contract period in which case the raiders pay the entirety of it, then he becomes an uncontracted player and the raiders can replace him on the list for 2026 is it?greeneyed wrote: ↑March 30, 2024, 8:23 pmI don’t think anyone here has any idea about whether his condition is pre-existing or not. I think this is a positive move by the club and I support the new position the club has taken. It doesn’t seemed to be based on any new medical evidence but rather the club adjusting its posture in respect to this matter.
