How nice is it to see the Knights imploding early doors. Apparently Hasting went home after being dropped rather than training with NSW Cup.

Honestly, they lose Ponga and they are spooners.

Might be some off field stuff going on for Hastings. Or the coach thinks he's senior enough to decide for himself what works best on that day.

Knee jersey reaction. Ponga isn't playing 'lights out' like he did last year. That's the key difference.

Imagine being dropped to Reggie's for Gamble and Cogger, I'd go home too

More than being dropped I'd be filthy at Gamble being kept. He's good for 3-4 effort games a year. Not leading a side around a park.

Yeah sooking isn’t a good look but Gamble shouldn’t be near that Knights side. It should obviously be Cogger and Hastings. Both just play straight and create space for Ponga. The right call to bring in Cogger but it’s definitely for the wrong player.

All that being said I think they’ll beat Melbourne who are without their halves and NAS still. If they do lose though they’re in huge trouble.

Souths in a similar boat. But Hawkins in is a huge plus. He’s out and out the best reserve grade half over the last 2 or so seasons. All of the Illias love in has actually been pretty unfair on Hawkins. If you take the Souths/Demetriou headlines out of it: dropping the worst halfback in first grade for the best halfback in reserve grade is such a non story.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Halfbacks are feeling the brunt of early poor form. So how come it takes 2 weeks after trials to figure out they weren't the ones to lead them to glory.
If Souths don't win this week, oh boy strap in for the media ride. They will be Tigers V2.0

Haas has been ruled out 4 to 6 weeks , that will hurt them , Fledger already gone and no Hass. Very skinny in the front row talent department. I think i will enjoy watching them lose a few.

Going to be interesting to see how they go without Haas.
The middle forward group is driven primarily with Haas with a handy assist from Carrigan and i dont know if they're young middles are good enough to piece that together without Haas. And tonight without Reynolds kicking game too. Going to make life a lot tougher on Walsh

Its a pretty tough run they've got in the next 4-6... Penrith tonight, Cowboys, Storm, Dolphins, Raiders and Tigers
It'll be a good result if they can go better than 2-4 over that period.

I said before the season even commenced that they were in for a much poorer season than last year. Can’t have blokes punching on in the preseason and expect a good year.

Our boy Billy gonna have a real tough time of it this year.

I love Fog and his kicking game, but Cleary just showed what an elite halfback should be able to do. Andrew Johns-level skills. Fog just doesn’t have that kind of play in his repertoire, at least not to any consistent level.

There’s usually only 0-2 guys at this level at halfback at any point in time.

Fog just needs to be the best player he can be.

Bit of a Raiders-like second half from Penrith. They should have put 50 on these jokers. Haven’t been able to score for the last 30 mins, dumb errors dumb penalties, concede 2 tries.

Same. I was really hoping the 50 curse would come up. It really should have. 34 points up with 30 mins to go, against no Reynolds, no Haas, no Walsh. Couldn’t score another point.

You can’t really compare any current players kicking games to Cleary, he’s a step above.

I wasn't comparing kicking games. If anything that's Fog's strong point. I was comparing more ball-play and running games. Cleary is the complete package.

EDIT: I can see the confusion - I mentioned Fog's kicking game as a strong point of his, and the reference to Cleary showing what an elite halfback should be able to do was to do with his ball-playing to set Tago up, which Fog can't do. Kicking is a Fog strong point, running and ball-playing a weak point. Cleary is good at all 3.

Yes. And put on report.

They’ve cracked down on head clashes as being illegal high contact since Finucane split S.Crichton’s ear trying to put a shot on last year or the year before from memory.

Ok good.

Should definitely be the defenders responsibility to try and make a proper tackle, and not to lead with the head.

He always had that lack of big game winning mentality hanging over his head - ie winning big games single-handedly. Last year's grand final seems to have been the game to really take him to the next level. He's an elite player now, no doubts at all.

Thankfully common sense has been applied.
It's unfortunate but it shouldn't have even been a penalty.
