Blake Austin was playing wing for England a couple of years ago. Not sure English selection is the trump card you think it is for establishing a player is up to NRL standardBluesbrother wrote: ↑March 18, 2024, 9:24 amAre you aware that EW was a starting player for England at the end of last season?Rickmando wrote: ↑March 18, 2024, 6:26 am It’s doubling down on the contract error by then also making him captain for 2024.

EW is nowhere near our best 17, are we going to put outsized loyalty to an individual player ahead of what’s best for the collective group that have started the season so well?

Schiller's form is hard to resist.

Haha, fair play. For the record, I think Whitehead is our 3rd best backrower. Just think it's reasonable he gets a shot to show where he is at this season.Botman wrote: ↑March 18, 2024, 6:35 pmBluesbrother wrote: ↑March 18, 2024, 6:33 pmIf you have a look at their second row options they are quite strong.Finchy wrote: ↑March 18, 2024, 5:51 pmBlake Austin was playing wing for England a couple of years ago. See, we're all just trying to put forth the best team with the best players
You're happy to change a winning team because you think EW has something to offer, that'll mean dropping somoene who probably hasnt played that badly all things considered.

Hope he gets a run. Would be a tough one on Cotric though, given he didn't get an opportunity to press his claims last week.

That tackle by Strange cements his spot in first grade for me, I think I love him, Weekes if Strange ever gets injured maybe, but Cook looked better than him to me in the cup games I've watched
And our fullback heir apparent is waiting for his shot too

This might be a good game for Hudson Young to stand up and show a little something.
I think his back end of last year was disappointing and so far this year, albeit a small sample size he's not having the impact we'd expect from a bloke who's played SOO footy and is paid at his level.
Would love to see a statement game from him this weekend.

Pretty sure he isn't due til Rd4, and the neck/back has complicated the recovery. Tuaupiki has been good too.The Nickman wrote: ↑March 18, 2024, 5:28 pmI hope they don't. I've liked that he's gone looking for the ball a few times. Popping up in the middle and the other side of the field.Botman wrote: ↑March 18, 2024, 8:08 pm This might be a good game for Hudson Young to stand up and show a little something.

I think he's even started better this year than previous. Seems like one of those guys that needs a few rounds to build into it.
I'm hoping to see more impact too.
Hosking is a constant reminder that Young needs to be on his game.

Re: 2024 Rd 3 v Warriors: Teams and Previews
It seems every media report is about Latrell, Souths, Demetriou or Lachlan Ilias, sprinkled with some Brooks
I watched it today at work. Of course there was nothing on us. They even cursed us at the end when Hosking won the player of the round voted by fans award by over Ola.
Also on Matty Johns' show last night, our match v Wests was the only match they did not show as highlights or talk about.
We just have to lead the table to round 27 and keep on winning.

Re: 2024 Rd 3 v Warriors: Teams and Previews
Young has a tendency to severely under perform in some games. He did this a lot last year. Especially after origin. He was bad. But I think he has started the year strong. He was good last week. But he needs to be delivering that every week. He ran for 165m. That’s quality. But we need it consistently.Botman wrote: ↑March 18, 2024, 8:08 pm This might be a good game for Hudson Young to stand up and show a little something.

If we have our backrowers doing those metres, along with big numbers from the front and out backs flying, we will be hard to beat.
Our run metres were nearly 2000 against the tigers. Big numbers. It comes on the back on that high completion rate. That’s the key.

He’s a quality talent but I’d like to see his consistency improve and more dominant games from him. I’m with Botman - this week feels like a good opportunity for him to make a bit statement and take momentum into the rest of the season.Regs Revolution wrote: ↑March 18, 2024, 10:17 pmYoung has a tendency to severely under perform in some games. We are a small team who likes to fly under the radar so its to be expected.
Do we even have a rivalry with another NRL team.
We should get more than a footnote but we also have to cultivate a media following.

I suspect we probably also create our own reality on some of these things. Ricky is constantly talking us down saying nobody gives any of our players credit for anything. What comes first the chicken or the egg? He’s hardly warm and engaging with the media in press conference. Why would the media decide to be supportive and interested in us?Raidernation wrote: ↑March 19, 2024, 1:42 amWe are a small team who likes to fly under the radar so its to be expected.

Re: 2024 Rd 3 v Warriors: Teams and Previews
I thought Young was really good. The first try was after a good charge and ptb by him and then he was working pretty hard defensively after Kris came off.
That edge will really be something once Strange starts to ball play in the NRL and if Chevy can cut it quickly. I reckon it will be a good sign if Young is not getting as much footy at that point.

Re: 2024 Rd 3 v Warriors: Teams and Previews
Tbh I don’t care much about metres from my edge forwards
It’s good that Young is getting involved and taking carry’s to ease the burden but I want my strike players making big plays and creating opportunities.
I’m not saying he’s playing poorly, I’m saying he’s not had the impact I’d want from a representative edge player. You think about the top edge players in the game and you don’t think about them carting the ball up on tackle 3, coming out of our own half
There was a period in the Manly Roosters game where in a team that is littered with elite talent like DCE and Turbo, the game ran through Olakau'atu. And it occurred to me it’s been a while now since we’ve seen our rep edge have that kind of impact
As I said, small sample size and he’s getting involved which is great. But you don’t pay edges for metres. Would love to see Young making impact plays this week.

Hosking creates Canberra Raiders selection headache
Canberra Raiders recruit Zac Hosking is only two games into his three-year contract but has already made a strong case to unseat captain Elliott Whitehead in the starting role in the second row.
"He's going to come straight back in the side, whether he's starting or on the bench, or I am," Hosking said. "I'm sure Ricky will choose the best thing for the team and we'll both roll with that. We're not selfish people and whatever is best for the team is what we'll do and we'll be happy to do."

Raiders enter week-long NZ camp in rare NRL position
The Canberra Raiders are flying high after 16 and 20-point wins to open the 2024 season and now they've embarked on a week-long camp in Christchurch from Monday to help keep that form going.
"Being around each other for more time in camp is only going to be a positive," Rapana said. "We don't want to be a team that is inconsistent. Getting back-to-back wins is important," he said. "Once you lose momentum - any team, no matter who you play - it's hard to get that back."
