47th min TRY PAPUA NEW GUINEA to Cruise Ten! The crowd is definitely going wild about that! He ran missile like at the line, reached out and grounded it. Struggled and broke free of three Australian defenders on the goal line. Zac Laybutt gets the fairly easy goal.

Horrible game of footy so far.

This Aussie team playing like they wouldn't beat the Wests Tigers reserve grade team.

58th min TRY AUSTRALIA to Alofiana Khan-Pereira. It is off the scrum play of Ben Hunt. They went the short side, and there was only the PNG halfback on that side. Australia had an extra man. Zac Lomax converts. Australia is fortunate to be leading.

63rd min TRY AUSTRALIA to Cameron McInnes beside the posts. That was too easy. Good pass Ben Hunt on the last tackle. Zac Lomax converts.

71st min TRY PAPUA NEW GUINEA to Epel Kapinias. The short kick through from the hooker Rimbu produces the four pointer under the posts! Zac Lomax converts.

77th min ERROR PAPUA NEW GUINEA from Cruise Ten, 20 metres out... and now...

TRY AUSTRALIA to Tyrell Sloan, picking up a DCE kick ahead. The siren sounds. The time clock has been quite flexible this afternoon. Converted Zac Lomax.

MATCH REPORT: Australia edge past PNG to win PM's XIII clash

Australia continued their dominance over Papua New Guinea in the annual Prime Minister's XIII clash on Saturday afternoon, but were made to work for the full 80 minutes in an eventual 30-18 win.

Leading by just six as the closing minutes approached, it was only a Tyrell Sloan try just before full-time that secured victory for the visitors, who made 17 errors across the match and struggled to shake off PNG as a result.

That was the ugliest game of Rugbrugh Leeg I’ve even seen.

And I’m a Raiders fan.

I think the PNG side produced a spirited effort to say to the Australians we are not lying down and we are not going away. Well done to them. Australia in the end wins 28-18 but there are bigger things for Mal and the game in the PM 13 going to PNG for this match. The PNG 9 and 7 had fine matches.

I also think we saw why DCE is a regular at Rep level and Cody Walker is not. When you have flyers in the side kick it for them, as DCE did for Sloane at the end, whereas Walker tried a miracle pass when he had a flyer to his left and a kick ahead would have meant a foot race which Khan-Pereira would probably have easily won. The match was not a great advertisement for the game of Rugby League but it generated a lot of interest in PNG and gave the population an opportunity to see the Australians play live.
