Raiders sign Kaeo Weekes on two year deal
Young and versatile. The kind of player we seem to pick up. Anyone know if he is good?
Young gun Sea Eagle Kaeo Weekes likely to find new club for 2024
Manly Sea Eagles gun utility Kaeo Weekes may not remain on the Northern Beaches in 2024. He has caught the eye of rival clubs according to News Corp, and the Sea Eagles are reportedly prepared to let him walk without a fight.
It's understood that the Sea Eagles have acknowledged that there will be no place in the starting 17 for Weekes next season, and given he is off-contract, he is unlikely to remain at the club.

Re: Raiders linked to Kaeo Weekes
The original story in The Daily Telegraph didn’t actually say the Raiders were interested… It just says we are looking for a five eighth to replace Jack Wighton. It implies it… but I doubt they’ve asked anyone at the Raiders. Manager sourced story by the looks.
The Sea Eagles list him as a fullback. He’s playing there tomorrow in the NSW Cup match against the Raiders. One game from nine at five eighth this year.
Sea Eagles gun flies coop
Kaeo Weekes could be on the move within weeks after it emerged that he had been given permission to explore his options on the open market. It is understood he is already on the radar of a handful of clubs.
Canberra are among the sides on the lookout for a five-eighth as they prepare for Jack Wighton’s departure at the end of the year to join South Sydney.

Re: Raiders linked to Kaeo Weekes
I haven't seen him play, except limited minutes from him from the bench against us in the 40 plus flogging we gave them in the penultimate game in 2022. Is he better than Strange ?
We do need a good versatile player that can play a number of positions.

I think strange is a first grade player, not convinced weekes is. Hard no from me. Does sound like managers are starting to use us to bump up interest in players.

I think he could evolve into a a Tyrone or Taylah May type of player. You take on a project player like this and sometimes Weekes can turn into months.

Not as good as your hookers and escorts analogy with Ricky's confusion but still a good attempt, Billy.Billy Walker wrote: ↑September 2, 2023, 7:38 am I think he could evolve into a a Tyrone or Taylah May type of player. Re: Raiders linked to Kaeo Weekes
I’d be in favour of us having a versatile player like Weekes in the squad. I don’t know if we can afford it now however with Levi, Starling, Woolford and Trev signed up.
Seems like disastrous squad management.

Re: Raiders linked to Kaeo Weekes
I kind of think the same. Ricky is a throw the toys out of the cot guy.
Whereas a more reasonable head might look at our narrow field of other recruitment, factor in COVID stress on the last two recruits, weighed against the frankly stellar returns on Hodgo and Whitehead and be willing to go back to the well again now the travel situation is better so the players can settle and maintain a life easier.

Re: Raiders linked to Kaeo Weekes
What about we check if Weekes has any siblings and see if we can’t sign on for a fortnight package??Hong Kong Raider wrote: ↑September 2, 2023, 7:41 amNot as good as your hookers and escorts analogy with Ricky's confusion but still a good attempt, Billy.Billy Walker wrote: ↑September 2, 2023, 7:38 am I think he could evolve into a a Tyrone or Taylah May type of player. No - nothing….. tough HK!
Re: Raiders linked to Kaeo Weekes
Not so much hurt their feelings, I think the poms will warn any potential ESL recruits away from Canberra and Ricky. Not just those two either, Sutton, Hodgo, Turner likely wouldn’t give glowing reviews either. EW is the only one left

He goes good in reserve grade
Re: Raiders linked to Kaeo Weekes?
Not sure he adds a huge amount to the 'development' backline we have lurking in lower grades.
Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.

OK, I'll admit it. I have no clue who this guy is.

Re: Raiders linked to Kaeo Weekes?
To me him, or some one like him, in terms of position versatility is giving us other options so we’re not *forced* to play the kids before we’re ready
I suspect someone will give Weekes a better deal than 1 year but imo getting a player like him for a year who can conceivably play fullback or 5/8th would just allow us the flexibility to let the Strange and Stewart timelines play out naturally
If that’s week 1, and he never plays fg for us, awesome
If we want to give one or both of those guys a few weeks or months to keep developing before bringing them in mid to late year, now we have a warm body to hold the fort, who is not without talent himself and might give us some fun games

Apparently Kaeo Weekes is Canberra bound. According to the Silvertails forum: https://silvertails.net/threads/kaeo-we ... st-1613204
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2023
That'll go down like a lead balloon here, but if its true, its a good signing. Might not feature a lot in FG, but he'd gives us options at two positions we dont have many options at.

If it's a depth signing it's a good one. I believe that would leave two spots open with Puru likely taking one of those.
Re: Raiders linked to Kaeo Weekes?
Sounds like it’s all but done, very good business by the club.

Manly Sea Eagles Kaeo Weekes reportedly will tour Raiders HQ this week
Journalist Brent Read says that Manly Sea Eagles fullback and five eighth Kaeo Weekes will tour Canberra Raiders HQ at Braddon this week and will meet with Green Machine coach Ricky Stuart.
The Raiders are on the look out for a five eighth, due to the departure of Jack Wighton to the Rabbitohs. Weekes, 21, has played for the New South Wales Blues Under 16s and 18s in the No. 6 jersey. He has been given permission by the Sea Eagles to speak to other clubs.
“Canberra’s been on the market for a five eighth. I mentioned a couple of weeks ago, that they are talking to Kaeo Weekes, a young kid at Manly. He’s played a bit of fullback there,” Read said on Triple M.
“I believe he’s going down to Canberra this week to tour the facilities and meet with Ricky. If things go well, I reckon it’s only a matter of time before they announce that Manly have let Weekes go and he signs with the Raiders. He’ll be the short priced favourite to start next season at five eighth for Canberra.”
“I don’t think we’ve seen the best of him yet. There’s big raps on him, he’s a really talented junior footballer. He’s had a little bit of taste of first grade. He hasn’t really grabbed the game by the scruff of the neck. But I think Canberra is pretty optimistic that he can resolve one of their big issues heading into next season, which is that No. 6 jersey. I think Kaeo will be the man to fill that void next season.”
