There is very little chance of this.nachopants wrote: ↑August 14, 2022, 4:35 pm Battered Sav was pretty damn good today I must say.
Our coaches have been consistent (which **** some of us) in giving the harsh reality that "he is young and learning"
That's scary right, nobody is saying that about Suali etc.
Anyway, Sav's improving at a great rate of knots and once that x-factor thing has some consistency and a reduction in errors he could be anything.
(I've decided I'm calling him Battered Sav for the next 15 years of his career and I will charge royalties to anyone who steals it from me)
Re: Xavier Savage re-signs to end 2025
Especially since Northern Raider dubbed him Battered Sav back in July last year. He holds the rightsgreeneyed wrote: ↑August 14, 2022, 6:40 pmThere is very little chance of this.nachopants wrote: ↑August 14, 2022, 4:35 pm Battered Sav was pretty damn good today I must say.

Re: Xavier Savage re-signs to end 2025
What an absolute outrage.
Re: Xavier Savage re-signs to end 2025
Raiders expected to announce this officially tomorrow, according to The Canberra Times.
Re: Xavier Savage re-signs to end 2025
Awesome. Really interested to see how he goes in 2023 with a full off season and that fullback position his own from day 1.
He's still young and raw, that there is really no telling where the ceiling is. His biggest focus should be on getting in the gym and being a little more physical and recognising the motor required to play fullback in the NRL. You've pretty much got to be the fittest bloke on the field. It's constant movement... up and back as a support runner, side to side as the sweep player, and following the ball defensively.
If he can improve on his handling errors and get a little more physical (ill never expect a player like him to be a defensive specialist) and get fitness up, then i think that and experience to help him positionally, will go a long way to raising his floor significantly.

Re: Xavier Savage re-signs to end 2025
Now that Slater is coaching, not sure if he'd take up a role at a club unless it was at least assistant coach of an NRL team. I think that would still be a big stretch but if we somehow made it happen, someone like that could definitely help him improve his game. He would be a great coach to have in the system as an assistant too. Feels like a pipe dream though.Rick wrote: ↑August 14, 2022, 11:35 amHope we get someone in over the off-season to work with him.Billy Walker wrote:Spot on Red - work in progress but high chance he’ll be a masterpiece. He’s got talent and speed!RedRaider wrote: ↑August 13, 2022, 6:45 pm Very Happy with the Savage signing. Sure he has a lot to work on with ball security in the tackle and defensive technique heading the list, but he has great speed off the mark and can pass well to set up team mates.
This has been a learning year for him and many on here wanted him in the side early in the season learning about FG play. Glad to see the improvement in his game already and with another off season to build up his size to match the physicality of FG, I reckon he will be even better next year.
Slater normally would be a stretch but given he is a potential Maroons player in a few years he could be tempted?
Knowing us though we will do nothing or get Dugan in to be his mentor…

Canberra Raiders confirm Xavier Savage re-signs to end 2025
The Canberra Raiders have confirmed the re-signing of fullback Xavier Savage, which will see him remain with the club until the end of the 2025 season.
Savage is currently on contract with the club until the end of the 2023 season, with the two-year extension seeing him stay with the green machine for the next three seasons.
Raiders CEO Don Furner said the re-signing of Savage continues the Raiders push to re-sign their rising stars, with Savage joining a host of players who have recently committed to the club.
“Xavier is an exciting young talent who is learning the game and improving with the experience and opportunity he’s getting at NRL level,” Furner said. “The Raiders are a development club and it’s important for us to retain the young players we’ve developed and help them in their progression into the NRL.”
“We’ve seen a number of our younger stats re-commit to the club this season and it’s a really good sign for the future of the club that these players know they’ll have an opportunity when they commit to Canberra.”

Canberra Raiders' Xavier Savage re-signs with club for two years
Xavier Savage admits his contract extension comes with added pressure to make the Canberra Raiders' No.1 jersey his own, but is confident he'll handle it.
"There is a little bit of pressure now, but I'm going to handle that pretty well. I feel like I'm more mentally tough than I was 12 months ago and I will be [even tougher] 12 months from now."

His nickname is Koolps, short for Kulpiyam which in our Traditional Zenadth Kes language means Rolling Thunder and lightning.

My son is his #1 fan. So our household is thrilled about this.
On a footy note, you can see the growth in his game. I really think we might have a Papenhuyzen type guy on our hands - a support runner with plenty of raw speed, but a guy who is fast developing passing and kicking game.

it's a real shame he's not a some big burly off the back fence front rower in the shape of a Georgey Rose/ Mark Tookey... he could have easily been the Nacho Man
