The Soccer/Football Thread

Post by David Furner Fan »

As there's no thread on this sport thought I'd be the first to make one!

Just wondered if any of you followed a team in any part of the World, and why do you go for these teams?

As I'm a Leeds born and bredl, I'm a big follower of my local team Leeds United.
I'm a season ticket holder and live 10 minutes walk from the Stadium.

I know Football isn't as big a sport in Australia as it is in the rest of the world, but I was just intrested to find out if any of you guys have a passion for it, as I do Rugby League.

Get back to us, and Cheers!

Actually Australian Authorities have made the move to make "Soccer" more professional in Australia by renaming it "Football". The AFL are trying to take Legal Action or something i think!

I'd love to see it go to court, just so AFL will get its name tarnished, it is known as football in over 200 countries, AFL have **** all chance of getting them to change it.

I don't care what the Soccer people try to call it. In NSW, Qld and the ACT, football is rugby league and always will be.

I recall some Pommies sitting round a table in the town Huddersfield making the game RUGBY LEAGUE and it's rules up!
You can call it soccer, but the rest of the world excluding Australia/ New Zealand and America call the game Football.... I mean that's where It matters

And Bay- I like your style... you support a great team there, I'm not sure if I take after you, or you take after me ;)

We call it football. That is all that counts. PR... you should want to call RL football too... as RL OWNS Soccer.

So why bother with league? If you feel this way? RL is the ultimate refinement of football. It emerged from the more primitive games of soccer and rugby union........ AFL is a sport that is in the primitive stages of soccer

RL IS FOOTBALL... no doubt.

Actually, we no longer call it Soccer in Australia.

They changed it to Football like the rest of the world calls it to launch the new competition.

ha, dont tell greeneyed that.

Acutally the organisation 'Soccer Australia - SA' has changed to 'Football Association Australia - FAA'. I think most people in Australia will still refer to it as Soccer. And what will the nickname of the national team .... cant see us changing Socceroos.

Bolton all the way, after a **** end to 2004 we are now flying high in 7th place 8) :D

When it comes to comparing codes, the technical skill in Football (soccer) is far superior to any other code.

i'm not a sports fan - i'm a rugby league and cricket fan. apart from those two, and the occasional tennis, there's barely a sport i like watching. nor do i feel i would be more "cultured" if i did.

Which one Scum?

Around my house, we've been brought up thinking that Man U was a swear word.... If you mention scum any where in Leeds, anyone will know what your talking about.

Bay, I hope your listening to the match on Sat, I think the programme will start at about 12, think around 10 at night for you.... I'm cacked up on time differences at the moment.

Remember hit this link http://www.radioaire.co.uk/nav?action=journal&id=1438 then at the top of the page it say's listen live!

There's only one United- LEEDS!
