Re: 2022 Rd 19 V Warriors: Game Day
I actually think Seiffert is on the money with regards to Young - his natural line is outside in which is really dangerous running off the dummy half but can be limiting in a backline move. There are times when there is space outside which we're unable to exploit as Young has squared his shoulders inside, and other times where he instinctively looks to get the ball in his hands before the line rather than running to space. Jack is never going to be an elite short passer as has been noted, but if Hudson can develop an outside shoulder line - similar to the one that CHN (or Murchie, for that matter) ran yesterday it will really benefit our attack on that side of the field. That said I think he's made some pretty significant strides forward this season and clearly has all the physical tools to be very good at the position.
Re: 2022 Rd 19 V Warriors: Game Day
Whilst I didn’t expect in depth discussion for hours on the Sunday Footy show about Raiders Warriors, I expected more than no discussion at all and just getting the 90 second news clip containing the in game commentary.
This is just another example how channel 9 do a complete disservice to growing the sport outside of the games existing fan base.
We have Nine and now Fox focused entirely the same teams and the same players.
Other sports ensure their TV partners help grow the sport, rugby league can’t think outside their Sydney and Brisbane base.

Indeed Gergreg. Forced 2 or 3 goal line dropouts to control the end of the game. Something this team as has been missing for a long time and has been well noted on this forum. OK he’s not an elite half but he played well yesterday and it seems no one noticed. Seems the modus operandi on this forum is to bag players when they are playing badly (fair enough) but not notice or give credit when they start playing well which is somewhat strange.gergreg wrote: ↑July 24, 2022, 9:53 amNow that I've rewatched it yes. Full credit. It's pretty clear that the players respect him as a coach but that's the frustrating part when they outwardly respect him but don't get the results. But today shows it. 100% completions in that second half was pretty bloody impressive.Botman wrote:It's absolutely WILD
And this is where we do have to give Stuart some credit
That team was a total and utter mess when it walked in that dressing room, he'd have had every right to strip paint off the walls, but all reports are he was super calm and the team responded and came out and played a very calm and composed second 40 and not only won the game but did it fairly easily in the end
We've got to be fair and give the man his dues when they're deserved.
I think Fogarty has improved each week and that was a good second half from him. That first try to CHN was all on him for running a really good line but Fogarty put it where he needed it. From that point Fog controlled the game really well.

How Canberra Raiders reversed faders curse in 'frantic' New Zealand Warriors fightback
The Raiders flipped the script on their dreaded 'faders' tag with a barnstorming second half rescuing the team from a shock loss to the Warriors on Saturday afternoon.
"We had a shaky start to the year, very inconsistent, then we had a really good win last week against Melbourne, and it's very easy for us to fall off the cliff and not back it up and just be happy with that," Fogarty said.

I noticed that after the tries in the second half the team was in a tight huddle doing breathing exercises.
Good idea.

I’ve been taking deep breath’s for years after the Raiders score. Especially needed if we go up by 12 points before we get run down.

Canberra Raiders forward Corey Harawira-Naera rapt as Albert Hopoate breaks through
Two-try hero Corey Harawira-Naera was not yet on the field when rookie Raider Albert Hopoate slammed down his first NRL try, but if he was, he would have been front and centre to congratulate the winger.
"He's come a long way. He's been down here for a year-and-a-half now and he's had his fair share of injuries at wrong times where he probably could have gotten a crack in front of other guys."

The problem, imo, is the tenure of so many horrific expert commentators. Roach, Slater, Cronk etc all absolutely diabolical. Most of the specialist sideline people stink too.
And the networks are too keen on a voice as their main man. The rise of Thompson and Ginnane sends shivers down my spine.
The best 3 commentators. Far and away are Smith and Voss (top 2 easy) and Matt Russell. We don't need radio personalities yelling at the audience.
Horrible ?
Compared to Rex Mossop or Billy J Smith?
You’ve got to balance into your calculations that he did the play by play.
Remember the last attempt at players doing it?
Was it Fittler?
I can agree that RL commentary overall is atrocious.
It’s a simple game for simple people.
And you can add commentated by simple people.
For a start they should allocate commentary teams to a small stable of teams so that they can be aware of the styles and progress during the season
Re: 2022 Rd 19 V Warriors: Game Day
Graham Hughes was a great caller, one of the best.
Re: 2022 Rd 19 V Warriors: Game Day
Yep. Play by play so he's compared to Rabs who left him for dead imo. Hughes puts me to sleep as the main man but that's just my take.mick63 wrote: ↑July 25, 2022, 10:31 amjulian87 wrote: ↑July 24, 2022, 7:36 am Maybe I'm too young but I thought Hughes was horrible.

Re: 2022 Rd 19 V Warriors: Game Day
Many of the expert analysts seem to think their job is to tell us which players have been "outstanding" for that day. No insight at all into what each team is trying to do with their attack, or how the defence is trying to counter it. All they've got is "Player X has been outstanding today". I'm not a drinker, but a good Super Saturday drinking game might involve taking a shot every time the commentators use the word "outstanding". You'd be tanked by halftime in Game 1.

A celebration 100 years in the making for a Canberra Raiders super fan
It’s been three years since 100-year-old Magdalen Sillis has been able to make it to a Raiders game. But on Saturday, not only did she get to watch from the VIP box, but the Bungendore local also blew the Viking horn for what ended up being a winning home game.
“They weren’t going very well at all, but they came together in the second half,” Magdalen said. “The players probably thought, ‘oh, she’s here to watch’, so they put on a good game.

Almost makes up for getting Angel Marina doing it - that's not a good look.
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.
