He claimed the referee and bunker were correct in saying CNK wasn’t effectively tackled, and he had the right to play on, and that the Sharks defenders had the right to tackle him again. Someone should buy Annesley a rulebook for Christmas.
Re: 2022 Rd 10 V Sharks: Game Day
I think it's more about the optics. When he first started with these debriefs he was open and honest about the ref's performance. I'm guessing he was told to rein it in and be more supportive.gangrenous wrote:Someone should buy Annesley a rulebook for Christmas.

Ok then.GreenMachine wrote:I don’t know what footage your watching.
Clearly it’s tainted green.
He clearly makes a second play when Moylan’s hands are off him and is rightfully bundled into touch.
If he went the length of the field and scored a try you’d be asking for it to stand.
The guy had a solid game but it was an idiotic play that thankfully we didn’t pay the price for.
There is no ‘ref conspiracy’…
Please don’t believe everything our coach spews out…thought you were smarter than that.
No one is arguing ref conspiracy - straw man
I’ve got no idea what Ricky said on this one. I haven’t watched the press conference.
I've given you the explanation (which is supported by the ref and video ref).
So take your bait and fish in another pond.
I’ll take the fact that you can’t say CNK advanced or did anything to show that he was doing more than playing the ball as you have 0 argument.
Appealing to the authority of NRL refs as a source of right is when you really know your argument sucks.
He gets up and advances the ball when Moylan's hand comes off him.
Then gets bundled into touch.

Re: 2022 Rd 10 V Sharks: Game Day
All CNK had to do was lay on the ground after Moylan's hand slipped off him in the tackle, and slowly get up playing the ball...that's it, end of story...and we wouldn't be talking about the matter...the sharks players were not going to pick him off the ground and drag him backwards.
Instead, he jumps to his feet to have a second run, basically baiting the sharks defenders to tackle him again.
The ref and video ref + rest of the planet (whether you agree or not) believed he wasn't 'held' and was having anther go at the line....
Overall a stupid play given the circumstances, but thankfully we didn't pay for it.

Pretty much it. Had he got up and actually started playing the ball we'd have a case. But he didn't, he wasn't in that posture.GreenMachine wrote: ↑May 17, 2022, 9:16 am All CNK had to do was lay on the ground after Moylan's hand slipped off him in the tackle, and slowly get up playing the ball...that's it, end of story...and we wouldn't be talking about the matter...the sharks players were not going to pick him off the ground and drag him backwards.

He may have been confused about the call but he just stood up and looked likely to run again, made no move to play it. So he shares some blame.

Re: 2022 Rd 10 V Sharks: Game Day
Anyone here actually taken a look at a replay?
He stands up and is engaged before he can do anything. He’s perfectly entitled to get up quick and make a quick play the ball. If he waits forever whoever is at dummy half or first receiver is in deep trouble on the line in the corner.
No one has been able to say what CNK did to make it clear he was playing on and there’s a reason for that. If there was anything to latch onto you bet your bottom dollar Annesley would have used it.
And in the end it doesn’t even matter if he mistakenly tried to play on. The tackle is complete by the rules of the game. It’s not up to CNK to decide that.

There's 2 separate arguments taking place here:
1. The tackle was completed, and it should've been a play the ball, even when CNK tried to continue on and got bundled into touch, it should've been called back for Held.
And
b. Some people are now trying to claim he got to his feet to play the ball. That's simply not true, he thought he wasn't held and tried to continue on.
You can have one of the above without the other.

Also consider this - in what world would a fullback quickly get to his feet and play the ball a meter away from his try line when his team is still trying to get onside???
The simple answer is that doesn't happen...he was trying to play on quickly after breaking the Moylan Tackle.
As I've said repeatedly, if he were genuinely attempting to play the ball, he would get up slowly and do it in a way that would ensure his teammates were not going to get smashed by the Sharks coming off their own line...he'd be buying time. Which is what every player held close to their try line attempts to do to either get an offside call from the ref for the oncoming rushing defense and/or ensure the player taking the ruck isn't getting dragged over the try line...
So this 'notion' 'theory' ...whatever you want to call it, that CNK was attempting to play the ball quickly is rubbish. He thought he could continue to play (as Moylan fell off the tackle) and got dumped backwards for his trouble...
Re: 2022 Rd 10 V Sharks: Game Day
It doesn’t matter what CNK thought or even did after the tackle. The referee should have ruled he was tackled in the field of play.

Re: 2022 Rd 10 V Sharks: Game Day
There are countless times in a football match where the ref uses their discretion to apply the rules and IMO this was one of them.
You can freeze frame it and play it over multiple times...in fact the video ref did that.
The conclusion was that Moylan didn't effect a tackle and CNK had 2 options:
1. Lay on the ground and wait for the first shark's player to put hands on him while on the ground with the ball; or
2. Continue with the play - effectively what he did.

The Raiders' unlikely win over the Sharks is one for the ages
Tim Gavel
With the Raiders reduced to 11 players at times against the fifth-placed Sharks last weekend, there was an expectation the Green Machine would be overrun before the final whistle.
Two-thirds of the Raiders spine were rookies: half Brad Schnieder is still finding his way and starting hooker Zac Woolford was making his debut.
