I don't really care about the statistics to be honest he has to be in any test team, I knew that was how they picked it

It's cumulative points across all forms. It therefore favours players who are part of all 3 teams. One reason Watto was always up top of the votes.

Aussies only played 4 tests last year so those performances wouldn't have had much influence. Made it heavily weighted towards the limited overs players.

Justin Langer resigns as AUS head coach.

He was offered a short term extension which is in my opinion a slap in the face.

Cricket Australia…shame shame shame.

What an embarrassment. A T20 WC win plus a 4-0 Ashes win.

Hmm he's a petulant, stubborn man manager who was lucky to last as long as he did imo. Those who've watched 'The Test' can probably put 2 and 2 together to see why Khawaja was constantly overlooked for the likes of Harris.

Was Langer's way or the highway which is ridiculous for an international cricket coach.

Geez Jules.

You’d think his tenure would be results driven.

He lost a test series v IND and some sub standard results in short form against WI and Bangers.

Either way he’s been shafted.

CA offered him a short extension which had him defending the T20 trophy here later this year and they were going to shoot him anyway.

He walked..

Results are one thing. But how you achieve them is a factor. Seemed pretty clear he’s lost the team and those results won’t continue. The relationships will deteriorate further to the point of impacting results.

JL dragged a team out of what was arguably the depths of Aussie cricket. He made some interesting selections aling the way to achieve that, most notablably plucking Paine from no where AND giving him the captaincy. He did a very good job of restoring a winning culture etc.

HOWEVER, its not hard to see that his methods were "old skool", and probably even dictatorial. Which doesn't gel with the youth of today. This generation of cricketer has been brought up on the freedom of T20 cricket, rather than the determination and focus of Test cricket. While there are a few older heads in the group, they were the guys on the cusp of the change - Smith, Warner and Lyon.

This wasn't working. And in pro sport, often the players have a say, esp the key guys. In this case JLs spot was untenable. If it leads to Ricky, then I'm all aboard.

I generally hate these sort of posts but the public don't know the half of the **** he pulled in his reign. Especially when he first came in. Some of the stuff was absolutely ridiculous and he had the players off put from the very start tbh.

Seriously though he didn’t have to do much in the role, not just him, I’m talking cricket coaches in general.

At this level there’s a batting/bowling/fielding coach right ?

So JLs job was to turn the laptop on.

It’s like a tennis coach..”now listen sport, when that guy hits the ball to you..YOU HIT IT BACK”

Justin Langer came in at a time when the leadership of the team thought it was ok to use sandpaper on a cricket ball to win. Cheat to win. He changed the culture to one of Work Hard to win, but win fairly. Some players didn't like it, but with him as coach Victories were achieved in tournaments that mattered like the T20 World Cup and the Ashes.

I didn't think he would quit. I thought he would see out his contract. But with the writing on the wall he's gone early. The players who went down the sandpaper path are still there. I hope whoever takes Langer's place has the strength to say that winning isn't everything if you have to cheat to achieve it.

Just a light hearted dig Red. Fact is the women have played 3 T20s, a test match and 1 ODI and no one has mentioned the girls here until you.

They are are great team, arguably the most successful sporting team of the past few years.

More like Langer's personality had worn thin on players (and other coaches) in the national squad. They are all highly experienced, top level athletes which is different to the time Langer took over. Right now they are past having somebody telling them what to do all the time.

Langer came in at the right time as his approach was desperately needed. 4 years later that approach is no longer required. It's the right move to bring in somebody fresh to take the team forward. Unfortunately it wasn't handled very well. Fairly typical of most things CA do.

Yet CA wanted to extend him for a further 6 months to defend the T20 World Cup in Australia, NR. Would they have gone down that path if the relationship had 'worn thin'. Perhaps its the relationship with some in the Test squad which is toxic?? A successful coach of the National Cricket side is gone and no one from Cricket Australia has come out to define exactly what the issues were and why they could not be worked through.

This is a weird 1. Details of the hit is still to be released. But as best I can tell, he wasn't hit while batting yesterday.

Scary thing is, he might just have to call it a career. Just can't stay on the field.
