I have Inglis at the top of my list, then Carey. However, I wouldn't object to throwing Phillipe in the deep end.

I think its telling that all our keeper batsmen options avg 32-34 in red ball cricket though. 🏏

PS. The WA keeper who gave the gloves away scored 170* odd today. Sam Whiteman
I'm still on the Whiteman wagon. He's got the best combination of temperament and technique of all the top order players in the country outside of Warner and Khawaja imo.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

You are a numpty who watches Love Island and has absolutely no credibility anyway, so I doubt the selectors will listen to you - I don't.

Paine should not be selected for the Ashes side imo. Even without his drama's, his form in the last Ashes series was poor with the gloves and with only one half century, a 58, and a whole series of Umpire reviews which were turned down. He did not seem to inspire his team mates and England seemed to have his measure.

It is time for change and I think the selectors will go with Pat Cummins as Captain. Carey would be the most obvious choice for wicket keeper. It would not surprise me to see Wade selected at keeper if the plan is to go deep with the batting. I would be concerned with his glove work though in comparison to others like Carey. If Cummins is selected as Captain in the first Test, I think the selectors will ask his opinion on keepers. The goal has to be to bowl England out twice per match so the better gloveman should get the nod.

Agreed. Form doesn't warrant it.
I think this sexting thing might work out as a back door exit strategy for CA TBH. Might have to put up with him for 1 or 2 Tests, but they picked 2 keepers in the A side.

Shane Warne is sharing his opinion on the leadership of our cricket team.

He’s entitled to that but geez if we stop asking him his opinion we’ll stop hearing from him.

Go away Shane, I don’t care what you think.

Just on SSmith being touted as vice skip. There will come a time in the near future where he will lead the side again. Clearly CA are comfortable with this. Through injury or rest we can’t expect PCummins to play every single test much from here on out.

Go away Shane..

Hope TP gets the space he is needing, I think he has made a good choice. Very unselfish also.

With Cummins still relatively young it's going to be a hard ask to have him captaining the side for quite a few years to come. I'd lean towards Smith - I just don't think the selectors will.

Good luck to Tim Paine, he got thrust into the limelight unexpectedly after the SAF tour of disaster - it's for the best that everyone moves on at this stage I think. Him being in the side wasn't going to do anyone any favours.

How’s a fast bowler standing down at deep 3rd man take charge of field changes, who to bowl, when to bowl himself and for how long etc.

I get the feel Pat will absolutely want to lead by example by over bowling himself resulting in breakdown.

Just sayin, it a lot of work, massive responsibility to captain a cricket team.

We haven’t had a bowling skip since the 50s.

I assume Smith will take care of a lot of the on-field over by over captaincy with Pat being the family of the role and leading the off field responsibilities.

Imran Khan, Sean Pollock, Courtney Walsh, Dan vettori.

Plenty of decent bowling captains and Cummins had no issues captaining NSW.

Who says he has to stand at 3rd man? Let him have mid on/off.

Richie Benaud finished as Test skipper in 1964. He was a brilliant Captain and Bowler.

Pat Cummins will be the 'acceptable face' of the side but Smith will make a lot of the decisions. Pat will just nod to rubber stamp the decisions. I am happy for Pat but it seems like a Claytons Captaincy decision by Cricket Australia.

Rarely see a deep 3rd man in test cricket anyway.

From the horses mouth Azza:

“There’ll be times in the field where I’ll throw to Steve and you’ll see Steve moving fielders around, maybe doing bowling changes, taking a bit more of an elevated vice captaincy role.

“That’s what I really want, that’s what I’ve asked and I’m really glad Steve’s happy with that as well. We’ll nut out exactly how that works, it’s going to be a real collaborative approach.”

Not really. The way the previous post described it was Cummins was effectively a puppet Captain. I think that's a stretch. Don't think anything in the quote above indicates otherwise.

I don’t get the love for Renshaw since oppositions worked out his weakness. He hasn’t performed well consistently in the comps he’s played in.
