Josh Hodgson signs with Eels for 2023
Free to leave: Wests Tigers to offer Raiders star Josh Hodgson two-year deal
The Wests Tigers are closing in on a major recruitment coup, set to offer Canberra hooker Josh Hodgson a two-year deal to join the club immediately.
While Hodgson still has one more year to run on his contract with the Raiders, Canberra have given the England international permission to negotiate with the Tigers for 2022 and beyond.

This is where the Peachy non signing kills me cause he could of served that role perfectly well. I just hope they aren't moving him on to pick up someone like Elliot

Raiders, Tigers discuss Josh Hodgson switch
Canberra and Wests Tigers have opened talks over a shock off-season move for English hooker Josh Hodgson. Raiders coach Ricky Stuart and Wests Tigers coach Michael Maguire have spoken in-depth about Hodgson’s possible transfer to Concord.
The major obstacle will be exactly how much Wests Tigers want Canberra to tip in for the deal to eventuate. Canberra fears the amount might be too high.

Re: Raider and Tigers discuss Josh Hodgson switch
Not surprised.
Could be best for all three parties tbh.
Raiders move on from Hodgo who is clearly slowing down, invest more in Starling and save some $$$.
Tigers gain some experience and a player we all know was one of the best.
Hodgo gets an extra year of NRL at a club where he will clearly be first choice, at the same probably receiving the same salary in 2022.

Tigers don't need a 9. Liddle and Simpkins were 2 of their best players last yrRaider47 wrote: ↑October 14, 2021, 5:32 pm Not surprised.

We do not have the depth for this.
It’s Starling then a rookie in Trevelyan.

Re: Raiders and Tigers discuss Josh Hodgson switch
My only complaint about this is that we released Havili.
If Ricky's intention is to have Starling at 9 next season, having 900k tied to a back up hooker is way way too much and it makes perfect sense to move on from Hodgo.
However yep we would beed a back up now.

His decline has been rapid.
Thanks for the service (not the crash plays) but I hope we don't stand in his way

Tigers also didn’t need Peachey but signed him, didn’t need an erratic centre in (after already singing one ( can’t remember who they signed secondBJ or Roberts). They are a rudderless ship.Matt wrote:Tigers don't need a 9. Liddle and Simpkins were 2 of their best players last yrRaider47 wrote: ↑October 14, 2021, 5:32 pm Not surprised.

I’m okay with this as long as we dictate terms within regards to how much we chip in. We then need to look for another hooker. Wynnums 9 is available and would be a bargain basement buy.

I can only think Havili was let go for off-field reasons, maybe for being a part of the Dunamis Lui sulk
We've now gone from being overrun with hookers, to being short

Apparently Liddle on outer and expected to go to Dogs or Titans. Strange, but it is the Tigers

Lol. Of course.
I've been trying to tell people for 6 months now that Hodgson wont be here in 2022.

Probably best for all after clearly falling out with sticky re: gwilly and Scott.
Re: backup I haven’t seen anything official with havili? Lots of talk but no signing with south’s yet unless I’ve missed it?
I wonder if they were waiting to see how this played out??

Sorry but unless we have actual plans to spend the non-freight Hodgson money on a significant signing it makes no sense to tip in any money at all for 2022.

So, what's the plan Sticky?

Re: Free to leave: Wests Tigers to offer Raiders star Josh Hodgson two-year deal
unfortunately, I think it's pretty niave to think we're not tipping anything in, the dirty little secret of this situation is the club is as keen to move on as the player is.Mickey_Raider wrote: ↑October 14, 2021, 6:08 pm Sorry but unless we have actual plans to spend the non-freight Hodgson money on a significant signing it makes no sense to tip in any money at all for 2022.
He's not giving up money to move and the tigers wont be paying him what we do are. So freight will likely be paid.
What i will say is this situation is a lesson for the club and players about how to handle these situations professionally... it's been clear for at least 6 months now that this relationship has gone past the point of return... and there was some issues in the press but the club and player both seemingly sat down and made a decision to act professionally, get through the season and move on as amicably as they could
