Have been home for a couple of hours and so proud of the team. They handled the loss of Sione Moala with calmness, and what a great job Connor Williams and Wilson Hamblin did when they came on. They seem to be built like a rake, but they really stepped in to organise.

I’m impressed with Caleb Esera and Trey Mooney, but Clay Webb was fantastic too... and Noah Saddler was very good as always. Thorburn was great out of dummy half. Michael Asomua great on the wing. I could go on but I won’t. The whole team deserves congratulations, along with Ash Barnes and the staff.

Maybe I shouldn’t say this, but on the morning of an early round match this year, Ash Barnes took the time to message us... to let us know the venue had been changed... didn’t want us to turn up at the wrong ground and I guess he was hoping we’d spread the news to other fans for the same reason. Not many coaches would take the time to do that on a game day. I can see why he’s such a successful grass roots coach. He just seems like a very good bloke. He deserves to be well rewarded by the club for what he’s doing. Thanks to Ash for bringing our club success.

It was also great to hear Trey Mooney thanking Peter Mulholland when accepting the game ball.

The thing I’m most impressed with is how the team has improved their defence over the season. That’s what won it in the end today. The Steelers are very unpredictable in attack, but the past two weeks, the Raiders defended stoutly. They put the Steelers back in their box.

A great day, really worth going up to Leichhardt. The traffic... it must be the least accessible ground in the NRL. But worth it!

Canberra Raiders reclaim missing 2003 SG Ball title

2003. It's the missing SG Ball premiership, but the Canberra Raiders have the winning photos to prove their tally now sits at four. The NSW Rugby League website incorrectly indicates the Raiders' 18-14 premiership win over the Illawarra Steelers on Saturday was their third - adding to grand final wins in 1995 and 2005.

Could have up to 8 players selected in the upcoming representative teams.
Webb and Mooney for NSW U19. Asomua for NSW U18 City if the side is selected correctly.
Esera, Clarkson (if fit), Billing, Thorburn and Savage for QLD U19.

I think Clarkson would be long odds.

What are the arrangements for junior representative games this year?

Yes I suspect there will be a under 19s match. That is not what I meant. I meant before which origin is it being played?

Are there also under 17 and under 21 origin matches this year? Are they still playing the residents (essentially NSW Cup v Qld Cup) game??

Doesn't look like any SOO U17 or U21 games and no confirmed date for the U19 game.

The way I read that, it appears there is going to be a Mens Under 19 game before one origin and a Womens Under 19 game before another origin. Not sure whether there is another curtain raiser, perhaps there is none for the Origin in Melbourne.

Unfortunately this is similar to what I am seeing in AFL junior programs where the girls programs are being expanded but instead of being additional, they are at the expense of the boys programs.

I think it would be a great shame if we went away from the traditional Under 16, Under 18 and Under 20s rep games (changed to 17, 19, 21 this year).

Looks like the Combined Affiliated States U19 side will be playing the curtain raiser at the MCG. So not sure when the U19 men will play. Women's U19 will play before the Womens SOO game.
