I thought it was round 4 but it seems to be round 3. I don't think he'll be picked first round he's available. That NSW cup side is going to be stacked.

Re: 2020 Rd 3 V Warriors: Teams and Previews
Stuart is not going to tell CHN he has to earn a spot in the team and then bring him straight back in after his suspension when the team is sitting 2-0.
The only question is whether Croker is fit, and if so, whether Kris keeps a bench spot.
Seeing our outside backs going down with various minor injuries certainly makes you worry about our current bench composition.

Then I expect a week or two later whoever impresses most in NSW Cup next week out of CHN / Guler / Horsborough will replace Sia. I love the man to death but for mine he just looks a step or two slower this year. We have too many good forwards to just let Sia ride the pine out of loyalty.

Croker v Kris, If it came to that I'd be tempted to keep the young bull on the field.
Havili v starling v CHN, I think starling or CHN would have a greater impact. I'd prob preference starling but would not be bothered either way.
Sia v Horsburgh v Guler, Im not sure Sia is having the impact that either of these two would. Also, did lui have a second stint yesterday? If he did I don't recall him having much of an impact.
Re: 2020 Rd 3 V Warriors: Teams and Previews
I wonder what's happening with Lui, another short stint last night with numbers that weren't that great

Re: 2020 Rd 3 V Warriors: Teams and Previews
I'm re-thinking my idea of CHN on the bench. I don't think we need an edge on the bench. We need 3 middles.
The 2 props and Tapine always get interchanged after 20-25 minutes.
Young and Whitehead play 80 and incase of injury, Kris can play on the edge due to his size.
IMO the best bench would be:
14. Kris
15. Sutton
16. Horsborough / Guler
17. James

These are the changes I’d strongly consider:
3. Croker
14. Kris
16. Guler
Sia and Havili drop out.

Re: 2020 Rd 3 V Warriors: Teams and Previews
I don’t think CHN will be in consideration for this game
I can’t see Stuart doing that from a culture POV which I think is pretty fair and reasonable
All things being equal though and this team being selected based on best players available
Starling in for Havilii l, CHN would come in for Sia on the bench and Guler in for Lui imo
Pretty sure we’ll be seeing the same team again line up unless injury or suspension hit us

Also agree with IBG that Sia is looking a bit done to me
He’s still working hard and leading our line speed in defence but with ball in hand I haven’t seen any punch in his legs at all
He’s probably the first one I’d drop
Ryan James is a basic stone cold lock for the bench so that has made things very interesting for the young middles

I think Croker is back this week, I can’t possibly see Stuart leaving him out again.
Re: 2020 Rd 3 V Warriors: Teams and Previews
really interested to see what rickys plan for lui is. is he saving him as a specialist game starter only? really feel like hes just keeping it warm for guler.
i thought sia was great last night so not seeing where all the "looking done" is coming from.
when crokers back im definitely dropping havili for kris to take up a bench role at least. could even see simonson being the one to drop to the bench.
big game this week given our depth should get to play with everyone available.

honestly, i was the biggest arguer that hodgson overplayed his hand last year.Raiders666 wrote: ↑March 21, 2021, 7:17 pm Starling has to come onto the bench surely....Hodgo is killing us at times It seems to me he hasn't learnt a thing

if anything he has underplayed his hand.
When you are playing the ball 2 or 3 metres from the line the best play imo is either a dummy half play or a crash ball, firing it out to the edges from the close sees you going to sideways not forwards enough. You fire it out to the halves when you are about 10 or 20 metres out or have a fast ptb.

Re: 2020 Rd 3 V Warriors: Teams and Previews
Yeah, it wasn't really the conditions to play with width. The play for Young's try was perfect, whereas the short ball into a collision is not so great in the rain.papabear wrote: ↑March 22, 2021, 8:34 amhonestly, i was the biggest arguer that hodgson overplayed his hand last year.Raiders666 wrote: ↑March 21, 2021, 7:17 pm Starling has to come onto the bench surely....Hodgo is killing us at times It seems to me he hasn't learnt a thing

Hodgson definitely overplayed his hand last season. In fact, Stuart used those exact words about him in an interview before this game.
I honestly thought the halves would kick the ball behind the line a bit more early on that second half. Unfortunately the spate of drops and penalties we gave away over a 25 minute period completely negated any game plan the coach may have had for that 2nd half.
Re: 2020 Rd 3 V Warriors: Teams and Previews
Kris has earned the right to remain in the top 17. I would move him to the wing when Croker comes back, with Simonsson dropping out. Ricky Stuart said in the press conference last night that the medical staff have cleared Croker to return, both from a conditioning perspective, and from the perspective of shoulder strength.
I'd bring in Starling for Havili. We would have significantly benefitted from his injection last night in the second half.

Re: 2020 Rd 3 V Warriors: Teams and Previews
Agree with all of this. Kris looks a bit of a gun. I also feel like Starling is potentially our future no 9 and needs to be in the side to keep Hodgo on his toes a bit, I didn't think he was that great last night... but I guess it's subjective.greeneyed wrote: ↑March 22, 2021, 10:50 am Kris has earned the right to remain in the top 17. Re: 2020 Rd 3 V Warriors: Teams and Previews
I just saw the NRL Physio post on Young too
Which for mine means we absolutely must have an edge player on the bench this week if Young plays.
Kris in #14 might be the way to get out the selection headache for a week if Croker is back. If Croker is given another week, then i think CHN actually has to play as cover for Young

Yeah, looks like CHN may get called up a bit earlier than Stick really would've wanted to out of absolute necessity.
