53rd min TRY BEARS to benchie Ben Thomas. Simple face ball, and poor goal line defence from Canberra. Converted. The Bears have had the better of the second half so far.

Bears lead 16-12 at three quarter time. HSS great shot on Suaali but Bears No7 Josh Ralph with step and go and with support on left for TRY which was converted. Raiders giving away some penalties and had little ball in the 3rd quarter.

70th min TRY RAIDERS to Tom Starling! Finally some determined running! It’s been a poor second half from the Raiders considering the personnel on field... until now! Converted Sam Williams.

Good line from Lui and excellently timed pass for Starling backing up for the try.

Hard to see from that camera angle but I didn’t see much wrong with the supposed shoulder charge

78th min TRY BEARS to second rower Nayfahu Whyte. His second of the day, he’s been good. Looked to be off a forward pass. Converted Carr from out wide.
That’s the result for the Bears.

Canberra Raiders lose tight NSW Cup trial
The North Sydney Bears came from behind to seal a 26-18 win in the NSW Cup trial match against the Raiders at Seiffert Oval on Saturday afternoon.
Corey Horsburgh looked dangerous in his first game since returning from a Lisfranc injury that he sustained in round seven last year with his appetite for hitups and offload.
NORTH SYDNEY BEARS 26 (Whyte 2, Suaalii 2, Thomas tries; Carr 3 goals) defeated CANBERRA RAIDERS 18 (Horsburgh, Moeakiola, Starling tries; Schneider, Simonsson, S. Williams goals)

Starling strong late in reserves and some good signs from Curtis Scott with strong runs late in that game. Clearly a lot of players doubling up for the second game.
Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Thought Hors, Lui and Guler looked a step above.
Starling with some good runs. None of the backs stood out. But many including Simmonson at least looked solid.

Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Somewhat disappointing second half from the Raiders. Have to keep in mind that Reserve grade forwards were out there for a good part of that.
HSS showed he has something to offer. He seemed to be the only Raider to test out Suuali with a solid tackle.
I can't see Horsburgh getting a penalty from the judiciary for supposed shoulder charge. It looked like his arms were involved.
No injuries, which is good.

Agree with Guler, Lui and Hors looking a class above.
I actually thought Seb Kris looked pretty good in the first half. I’ll echo what I said earlier though. Has me a bit puzzled/worried that Havili played so much second row in that game. Not suited to that at all.

Let's be honest, nobody in this thread picked that HSS would be that someone. It was delightful though.robtheraider wrote: ↑February 27, 2021, 8:30 am All I'm really hoping for is that someone lines up Suaalii and gives him an appropriate, legal welcome to the big time...and if its big Horse taking his frustrations out , well that's icing on the cake.
Not too fussed about the score, more focused on how the players looked. Bailey looks dangerously good, I like that he can kick now? When did that happen? The forwards all look pretty hungry and decently fit.

Hopotia looked good
Re: 2021 Trial V Roosters: Teams and Game Day *Teams p1*
Bears win 26-18. Starling try for Raiders backing up a good Lui break. Bears half Ralph again puts White into a hole (past Curtis Scott) for a long range try. HorsPower on report for shoulder charge. Shame as he was strong with his footy. Hopoate did some good things under the high ball and with some runs. Valemi and HSS showed some good defence. Starling starts off where he left 2020 a threat from dummy half and good defensively.
Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Just watching the NSW Cup trial on replay... the commentator actually told us Bailey Simonsson put in a very strong performance for the Maori All Stars last week.
Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Even watching a couple of replays of the Horsburgh alleged shoulder charge... it is pretty difficult to see if there’s a real issue or not. Guess we wait.

Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Canberra Raiders to have six double headers at Canberra Stadium in 2021
The Canberra Raiders are to play six double headers at Canberra Stadium in 2021, with the return of the Green Machine to the NSW Cup.
The Raiders have not fielded their own NSW Cup team since 2007. They established an affiliation with the Souths Logan Magpies in the Queensland Cup in 2008, before being forced back to the NSW Cup.
The Raiders affiliated with Mt Pritchard in 2012, but last year, Mounties decided to switch their loyalties to the Canterbury Bulldogs for 2021.
It looked like the Raiders would be without a NSW Cup team for this season, until they announced they would enter their own team, withdrawing from the Under 21s Jersey Flegg Cup at the same time.
ARLC Chair Peter V'landys has led a return to playing "all three grades" this season, allowing fans to follow the progression of their club's players from Under 21s through to the NRL.
While the Raiders will not have "three grades" this year, their NSW Cup team will provide the "warm up" match at six of their fixtures at Canberra Stadium.
Three of the Raiders NSW Cup home games will be played at Raiders Belconnen. They will also play before the Raiders NRL match which has been transferred to Wagga.
In addition, the Raiders NSW Cup team is to play prior to NRL counterparts at four away venues.
Four of their matches will be broadcast by Fox League.

Re: 2021 NSW Cup
Very exciting draw. This is what some have been wanting for a long time. I was one of those wanting this too but in all honesty I didn’t ever expect it to happen. Well done to those who kept up the argument.
NSW Cup curtain raisers before 7 of our 12 home games (one of those home games in Wagga) and a further three games in Canberra is a fantastic result.
By my calculations only the away games against Penrith and Dragons feature us in a NSW Cup curtain raiser. I think we might play a couple of other NRL curtain raisers but they are not with the Raiders first grade.
There might also be some other away games where there is a non Raiders NSW Cup / Jersey Flegg match preceding first grade.

Re: 2021 NSW Cup
One thing the NSWRL has been able to achieve is what so many see as being the perfect solution for a draw. All teams play each other exactly twice, once at home, once away. 10 home games. 10 away games.

AT A GLANCE: The Canberra Raiders return to the NSW Cup in their own right for the first time since 2007. They will form part of an 11 team competition in 2021, with every NRL team in Sydney also participating in one way or other. The Raiders host the Western Suburbs Magpies - the NSW Cup feeder team for the Wests Tigers - in Round 1 at Canberra Stadium this Sunday. It is the first of six NRL/NSW Cup double headers at Bruce this season.
The Raiders should have a very strong NSW Cup team in 2021, having withdrawn from the Jersey Flegg competition for 2021. The Raiders NRL top 30 squad is stacked - particularly in the forwards. It is likely that quite a few players of first grade quality will be available for NSW Cup each week, while there is a rich crop of Under 21 talent that can also be drawn upon.
For Round 1, the Raiders' line up is led by halves Sam Williams and Matt Frawley, and hooker Tom Starling. Emre Guler is a notable inclusion at starting prop. He was unlucky to miss the Raiders top 17 for Round 1. English recruit Harry Rushton will make his debut in green in a premiership match in the second row.
There'll be a lot of interest in the progress of outside backs like Harley Smith-Shields and Matt Timoko, as well as wingers Albert Hopoate and Semi Valemei. Smith-Shields and Timoko were in contention to replace an injured Jarrod Croker, before Seb Kris got the nod for that position.
There are plenty of young players to watch as well. Clay Webb, one of the six development players, is a hard working second rower, who will line up alongside Rushton. Highly rated hooker Adrian Trevilyan and half Brad Schneider, recruited from north Queensland last year, are on the bench. Caleb Esera, is another of last year's recruits from Queensland. He's a second rower, who can play prop. With application, he could be anything in the game.
Whatever you do, don't miss this match!
