Hogg was a gun white ball bowler but rubbish in Tests/FC where bats weren't looking to attack him. Same with Zampa.

Both averaged over 40 in FC with the ball

That’s an interesting comparison. Brad Hogg was a world class odi bowler though. Was significantly better at every aspect of the game tbh.

While he played in a stronger team than Zampa he played in 2 world cups for an undefeated record and 2 tournament wins.

As a bowler or pie maker?

18 wickets at 72.5 doesn't fill me with much confidence, still young though.

I think Tanveer Sangha is being lined up as a prodigy

The latter. Marginally OK at T20 level because he's accurate. Not effective at first class level because he doesn't turn the ball. He played a Shield game against QLD before Xmas and got pumped by Usi, Renshaw and Pierson. Same matched Swepson took 8 wickets.

Agree that Tanveer looks an infinitely better prospect.

I'd rather see them keep the t20 squad the same. Some guys getting an opportunity and the series doesn't have much importance.

Warner, Smith, Starc, Cummins, Carey would be part of the normal T20 squad. Henriques and Abbott maybes. The latter 2 have played stuff all cricket this year so they should consider adding them to the squad.

Prudent move to can the SA tour. Although improving they are still recording new infections in the thousands each day. (Info from Worldometer). I love cricket, but not at the risk to the health of everyone in the Australian Touring Party.

NSW have remained at $2.88 to win the Shield with the SA tour cancelled.

Warner, Smith, Henriques, Abbott, Lyon, Cummins, Starc and Hazlewood potentially become available for the second half of the season.

The fielding is foul, but the clean hitting was brilliant..22 balls.

The bowling was pure garbage.

Gayles team needed 98 runs from 60 balls. Gayle scored 84 of them in the best display of hitting ever.

Funny thing- All players have their surname on their playing shirt right ?

Not CGayle.. on his shirt it says”universal boss”

Sheffield Shield resumes tomorrow with NSW vs VIC and TAD vs QLD. All test players should be available which will make it interesting.

Henriques walked out at 3-36 against Victoria this morning and has grafted a very solid 46* so far against some pretty good bowling. NSW 8-134

Maintains his great red ball form with his last innings being 113. It's a shame selectors used him for nothing but mixing cordial in the Indian series.

Henriques really been a late bloomer. Was picked for test cricket when he probably wasn't ready for it. Much more complete batsman now. Even though he's just turned 34 they could still get 2-3 years of decent service from him. Similar to Adam Voges a few years ago. He was something like 35 on debut.

If Henriques plays a pure bat I think he could play top level for 4/5 years. He's very strong and fit and his injuries have almost invariably been from bowling which wouldn't really be required with Green in the side.

Khwaja and Burns both with tons in QLD win over Tassie. Should keep them on the selectors radar for the time being.

T20s against NZ starts today. Expect a very competitive series. They just manage to squeeze it in before footy season begins.

Still can't understand why Usi was being overlooked for the test squad this season. At least he was named as a reserve for SA Tour. For Burns it was his first significant score since last season.

Runs at the back end of this season will be important. That will create the short list of contenders. Start of the next Shield season will then be critical to decide who gets those couple of batting spots up for grabs. I think there's a 1 off test against the Bangas before the ashes.

With the World Cup around the corner the selectors have some make or break decisions coming up. If the all rounder is to bat #7 it has to be Dan Christian, absolutely no questions asked. Marsh keeps breaking down and Stoinis is nothing but an opening bat (cost us the 50 over World Cup). T20 roles are very specific and you can’t just plonk your 7th best bat at 7 if they’re not suited to it.

You could suggest Agar but he’s not good enough to bat 7. If you play 2 spinners you probably need Stoinis to open with either Warner or Finch at 3 and Christian at 7 so you still have 4 (of sorts) seam options.
This all happened yesterday. Agar nosebleeds at 7. Stoinis being completely useless unless opening.

Selecting Stoinis ahead of Christian as a lower order all rounder is an absolute laugh.

Devon Conway's effort was as classy(not a word often used to describe T20 innings) a T20 nock as i can remember, really stamped himself as a quality international cricketer last night. you can see why the selectors have chosen him over one of our all time best batsmen and left Ross Taylor out of the T20 squad

World Cup squad would look a little different with the Test squad players available. Warner, Carey, Smith, Henriques, Cummins, Starc all likely inclusions. Abbott and Neser also in the mix.

I'm completely over Stoinis. Proven many times that he doesn't cut it at international level. He continues to get picked on the back of his BBL form, which is in reality a 2nd tier T20 comp. He doesn't bowl so can make way for one of those Test batsmen.

Agree on Agar. You can pick him as a bowler but not as a no7 bat. A batting all rounder is required there or a pinch hitter who can be thrown up the order if needed. Christian would be ideal. Henriques worth a look if he was able to bowl.
