It’s been all the Maori All Stars! 19 tackles in the red zone, none for the Indigenous All Stars.

Aussies trying to pronounce Maori like kiwis do

Sent from my SM-G960F using Tapatalk

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

The quick play and faster game makes for heaps of dummy half runs and one off the ruck hit ups.

This isn’t exciting football and reminds me of the super league era.

Not finding this the most exciting game of rugby league I’ve watched.

The mistakes haven’t helped but speed doesn’t always equal exciting football.

Ball movement is more exciting than fast ball in play.

53rd min TRY MAORI ALL STARS to Dallin Watene-Zelezniak. Manu intercepts and DWZ is backing up on the outside. Manu probably could have scored himself. No conversion.

79th min Horrid penalty conceded by the Maori All Stars. Tackle without the ball, on the goal line, in front of the posts.

PENALTY GOAL INDIGENOUS ALL STARS

Maori All Stars 10
Indigenous All Stars 10

No golden point...

FULL TIME

Honours shared in thrilling All Stars finish

Man of the moment Latrell Mitchell stepped up to the plate when it counted to drag the Indigenous All Stars back from the brink to salvage a 10-all draw with the Maori All Stars in Townsville on Saturday night.

This was always the danger. People have short memories in the game of rugby league, and things go in endless cycles... because some commentator dreams up something... and all of a sudden... two points for long range field goals!

I thought Charnze was pretty good - in fact probably the best player on the field for the whole game (I dunno who the best player sitting on the bench was...). His positioning was excellent on all the useless little kicks and I don't recall a mistake (though I may have been drinking).

I was crying out for the inside ball to Joe and he got one in the first few minutes. Then not again. A bit wasted, and despite being co-captain, I still never heard him talk... oh well.

Jack was the usual, a drop, a kick out on the full, a lucky penalty-avoidance, but yet when he got the ball in any kind of position, especially in the last quarter, he looked alright.

Don't really care about the rest of the play though.

I'm a big CNK fan but he did not play well tonight, possibly the worst game I've ever seen him play. Was unable to make a play in the opposition 20m; couldn't break a tackle or setup his outside man.

right... big fan

so, um, who were those outside men? in what plays was he in an attacking position other than taking a selfless hitup? I was mostly watching his defensive effort. Its, like, half the game.

ah I remember, the one where Jack took him out (not that he would have got there anyway...)

For defensofiles like me, I loved the commitment of the Indigenous All Stars in defence in the first half. No panic or overreading the play, just mark up on the player with the ball and shut them down. So much ball for the Maori and Luai and Marshall scheming away but the defensive line adjusted and held. Excellent work.

In the second half as fatigue and an intercept took hold, the Maori took a grip on the game only for the Rabbitoh combination to score to get the Indigenous back into the match and a penalty to lock it up.

I thought James Fisher-Harris was best on ground. With and without the ball he is very good. Of the Raiders I thought CNK was typical CNK, very safe at the back and continually took the tough hit ups. He is a courageous player. Jack was Jack. Very good to outstanding with some of his defensive work but the kick out on the full and dropped ball could be put down to early season, but we see it no matter what time of year. Tapine took some tough hit ups early, but he seemed to be content to let others do the work after the first quarter. Not sure if he was gassed or hurt or unsure of his co-captain role. For whatever reason he seemed to go quiet.

Good to see Rugby League back and I'm looking forward to another quality Raider season.

Stuart has mentioned Tapine takes a bit of time to get into a season. He's not a huge trainer so probably takes him longer to get match fit.
