Emre Guler re-signs with the Canberra Raiders until end of 2023
The Canberra Raiders have continued securing their squad for the future, with Emre Guler committing to the club until the end of the 2023 season.
Guler, 23, who is currently on contract until the end of 2021, has signed a two-year extension on his current deal with Canberra.
A breakout season in 2019 saw Guler play in the NRL Grand Final, but an ankle injury sidelined him for the second half of 2020. Guler used the time to ensure his ankle was fully recovered and with a full pre-season he’s looking for an opportunity to get back into the Raiders NRL team.
A highly rated prospect, Guler was one of two Raiders who recently joined Brad Fittler in Sydney as part of the NSW Blues emerging Origin camp.
Guler said he’s excited to extend his time in Canberra and he’s looking forward to getting back on the field after a frustrating 2020 season.
“I’m really happy to get it done. I just want to look forward to training hard and getting myself ready for round one,” Guler said. “It’s good to get it out of the way and focus on footy now.”
Guler said the Raiders depth in the forwards will make it a challenge to secure a place in the 17 for round one, but he would be doing everything he could to give himself an opportunity.
“You look at the [forward pack] on paper, there are such good names there. It’s going to be a tough year, there’s a lot of competition and you can just tell that here at training,” he said. “I’m hoping to have a strong trial and put myself in a position to get back into the team.”
Raiders Recruitment and High-Performance Director Peter Mulholland said the re-signing of Guler was a vital part of the club’s retention strategy and he would continue to improve and develop over the next three seasons.
“It’s another great sign for the club to have young players wanting to re-sign and continue their development in Canberra,” Mulholland said. “We’re still yet to see the best of what Emre can bring on the field and we’re looking forward to seeing him continue to establish himself in the NRL.”

Good stuff - I thought there was a risk of him moving back to Sydney.
Also, I would like to get Botman's views on this re-signing.

Strategically great re-signing, for the middle forwards.
Papa and Guler signed up for the next 3 years. Elite mature player, and young talented bloke just starting to break through.
Very solid base for future years to come.

I am one happy Raider fan with this news. Hopefully he can resume his 2019 form and build on it. I like the fact his focus is on footy when he is on the park. Too many youngsters trying to prove how tough they are. Playing Front row in FG means they are already tough. It is footy skills which secures the long career.

Great news. I rate him the cream of the crop when it comes to our young forwards. The bigger the stage in 2019 the better he went.
Seems to have a good head on his shoulders too.

Very good news and probably a pretty smart time to re-sign him whilst he’s not at the forefront of many rivals thinking.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.
Re: Emre Guler re-signs with the Raiders until end of 2023
This will come of great shock to everyone
But I’m extremely happy about this end remain... dare I say it... bullish on his future
But seriously I’m very happy about this. Looking forward to seeing him continue his career with us. I agree with Roger that he’s imo, the best of our young forwards and love the way he responds to big games and moments
Also agree with those who have praised the timing by the club. He’s very easily over shadowed in this pack but I don’t think that’ll be the case much longer
He’s the sort of player I’d have targeted if I were a rebuilding team
Re: Emre Guler re-signs with the Raiders until end of 2023
Great news. What an opportunity for young guys at our club to learn from Sia, Papa and Lui. No wonder our young forwards are developing so well.

Great stuff. I was a little worried how he'd feel about re-signing later in the year. We've got a logjam of seniors in the middle and he's coming back from injury. Might have taken a little air out of the tyres if stick decided to ease him back in or keep him fresh.

I noticed that too. Just took each new challenge in his stride and went better and better.Roger Kenworthy wrote: ↑February 15, 2021, 2:52 pm Great news. I rate him the cream of the crop when it comes to our young forwards. The bigger the stage in 2019 the better he went.

This is great news. Between horse and guler, we have two middles who, if can remain fit, can be playing origin for the next ten years. Throw in Hudson and we are well placed for the future when some old heads like Sia, lui call it quits.

Likely last year for Sia. Lui not re-signed yet. That future might be next year.

Great news. Even if he doesn't start the year in first grade, he'll kill it in the NSW cup.

Yep, Hudson Young next
If we can get him and HSS sorted for extensions that'd be great

Re: Emre Guler re-signs with the Raiders until end of 2023
Would be good for both parties if his manager sorted it out quickly.
Hudson Young is reaching a tipping point in his career.
Some stability of team, coach and contract will be good for him. I’m sure he knows that he somewhat owes his teammates and coaching staff for helping him through a tough period.
The Premiership window is open, the young players can’t be looking for other houses right at the moment. Plenty of playing and financial opportunities will emerge if you have a premiership ring to your name.

Hudson young is 6 good games away from being in the origin frame. Chn has probably done him no favours as he could really have impressed in the middle again. But I think youngs value is about to skyrocket and id be locking him in before it does.BJ wrote: ↑February 16, 2021, 3:14 pm Would be good for both parties if his manager sorted it out quickly.

He owes us nothing by the way. His performances on return have more than made up for his indiscretions

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.
If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Good news.
I got a bit worried when things went quiet on this extension, but figured his name wasn't being linked to other clubs, so it was all good.
Nice to have a 2 year deal. I expect his next one will be harder for us to negotiate.

HSS is off contract in 2021, Timoko in 2022
also yes, for me HSS over Timoko but i cant say it too loudly because im not SUPER confident on that
Re: Emre Guler re-signs with the Raiders until end of 2023
Great piece of business to keep him for 2 extra years. Guler was mid-breakout just as he got injured
Re: Emre Guler re-signs with the Raiders until end of 2023
I think we'll probably have to let Lui go. At his age he'll be coming up to his last decent sized contract, and he's on an upward trajectory career wise attracting a greater level of attention than previously experienced.... I don't see how we're going to be able to pay what I see others could throw at him, given our numbers and that he's now an Origin rep.
