According to the Wests Tigers website we are playing the Roosters now.

We were supposed to play the Tigers and the Roosters were to play Manly but both of those match ups are in Round 1 so it has been swapped with us playing the Roosters on the Saturday and Tigers playing Manly on the Sunday.

Both games at Leichhardt oval offering a feast of pre-season footy for fans in the Inner West.

Sounds to me that it was set up before the NRL draw was announced even if they didn’t publicly announce it until after the draw came out.

I suspect everyone went away and thought about it and thought that a swap would be a good idea.

Sounds fair enough to me but given our recent history it is pretty hard to have a hit and giggle against the Tricolours.

You heard it here first. I don’t like to think that I am a big deal around here, but it is sorta, when I say something, they tend to listen!!

Canberra Raiders 2021 Trial Match

The Canberra Raiders v Wests Tigers match scheduled for Friday 26 February 2021 has been changed, with the Raiders and Tigers now partaking in different fixtures on the same weekend. The Raiders trial match is still scheduled to take place at Leichhardt Oval, but will now take place on Saturday February 27 at 5.30pm. Details for the Raiders new opponent are being finalised.

Wests Tigers have today confirmed that the club’s 2021 NRL trial match will now be played against the Manly-Warringah Sea Eagles after an adjustment to the pre-season schedule.

Originally scheduled to face Canberra at Leichhardt Oval on Friday, 26th February, Wests Tigers will now face the Sea Eagles on Sunday, 28th February following the release of the 2021 NRL Draw, which will see Michael Maguire’s men face the Raiders Round 1.

The change in trial opponents from Canberra to Manly is reciprocated by the Roosters, who will now face the Green Machine after being put in a similar position — scheduled to face the Sea Eagles in their season opener on Saturday, 13th March.

Of course Saturday at 5.30pm is a much more convenient time than late Friday afternoon for those of us from Canberra that might attend this game.

Confirmed on the Raiders website that we will be playing the Roosters. It also says "in their official trial match for 2021" meaning I think we can be certain there are no other trials planned.

Under the rules announced yesterday by the ACT Government, if this game was this weekend, everyone who went to Leichhardt Oval (Inner West Council) including players and fans would have to quarantine for 14 days upon their return to the ACT. If the game was to be at the SCG there would be no restrictions.

Go figure.

Under this scenario. I think NRL players and staff inside the strict NRL bubble would be exempt from this. A bit like the time Don Furner Jnr couldn’t attend a match, but the players and Ricky could.

NRL had stricter bubble rules than some other sports and V’landys was wise enough to get the States and Territory’s to formally agree exemptions for the NRL.

But I get your point on the limits for everyone else.

There are no bubbles at the moment. Hopefully they won’t be required.

I was just making the point that it seems very strange that we could go to the SCG but not Leichhardt.

I was looking at potentially visiting a supplier in coming weeks. They are 200m inside a council on the list.

I think at the moment we could go to Penrith, Campbelltown, Kogarah, SCG or Cronulla (which is closed). We couldn’t go to Stadium Australia, Parramatta, Leichhardt, Manly or Belmore.

Hopefully by the time it matters the restrictions will be lifted.

Changes to ACT rules today mean we can now visit the Inner West Council where Leichhardt Oval is located.

There are no NRL venues in the Cumberland Council although the CHO expects to remove that restriction by this time next week, so well before the season.

Seeing as anything can happen with COVID restrictions and Sydney, will there be a live feed on-line again this year?

You'd be hoping so. Still a whole month away. A few more guys probably sit out because the All-Stars game is only 7 days before it.

As of 3pm today ACT no longer has any restrictions with Sydney.

The ACT govt are also allowing 75% crowds at the Big Bash finals this weekend. Not sure if that now covers all sporting events at Manuka and Canberra Stadium.

Canberra Raiders trial against Sydney Roosters moved to Seiffert Oval

The Canberra Raiders v Sydney Roosters Trial match on Saturday February 27 has been moved to Seiffert Oval in Queanbeyan. Both clubs have agreed to move the trial to a regional venue to minimise risks associated with COVID. Information on any possible access for members and fans for the match will be communicated once it is available. The match will be live-streamed.

Canberra Raiders NRL preseason trial against Sydney Roosters moved to Seiffert Oval in Queanbeyan to avoid COVID-19 complications

Seiffert Oval will host its first Canberra Raiders trial in four years after the club opted this week to move their preseason clash with the Sydney Roosters to Queanbeyan. The match is not expected to be open to the general public, but Raiders officials will work with local government in Queanbeyan to explore the possibility of admitting members and corporate guests.

"The fans are right there on the fence and they can hear everything they say whether it's good or bad but that's what rugby league's about, the banter and getting people coming to watch," former Raiders captain and Queanbeyan Blues coach Terry Campese said.

You're not a member? I hope they do open the gates to card-carrying members.

I don't mind watching the footy at Seiffert though I hope they've improved the lighting if the game goes late. The last time I was there, you couldn't see what was happening if you happened to be near the opposite in-goal area.

I'm in Sydney. With my son's cricket I can't get to QBN in time. Leichhardt would have been a lot easier obviously.

And with that, I'll be watching the live stream on my TV with a few cold Silver Bullets and pies. Oh well.
