I liked how Ricky said that he's set himself the goal of making Jack Wighton the NSW five eighth and George Williams the England half this year... in discussing goals for the year with both players.

Also an interesting story about how Warren Ryan and Keith Barnes tried to sign Stuart to the Tigers, when he was playing union at Manly. Can't say I can remember hearing that before... or I've forgotten. Certainly had heard the part of that story about how he had a hand shake agreement with John McIntyre to talk to him, before signing with anyone, if he was to return to rugby league. Nice bit of a post script... once Ricky signed with the Raiders, McIntyre told The Daily Telegraph that the Raiders had signed him as a lock. Ricky asks... what's that about? McIntyre says, I'd much rather piss Dean Lance off than Kevin Walters or Chris O'Sullivan!

Got to say that was entertaining and enlightening. Finch was Finch but good to see and hear Ricky, especially his goals re Wighton and Williams as mentioned by GE above.
Especially loved the bits about recruiting "good blokes" ( no one looking for $ or shortcuts) and the history lessons for the players...really believe that we are looking at a Roosters type era where the expectations will be high for many years to come.

Was a good chat, listened to it on the flight to Brisbane

Loved how he said he rides his halves cause he wants them to get to the next level

That was a good interview. Ricky came across quite relaxed. Very good memory too recalling events over 30 years ago.

When Finch left us was he replaced with Withers? We had a good 2003. Wonder whether he would have made much of a difference if he stayed.

I certainly think Finch hurt his career by going to the high profile Roosters too early in his development as a half. Same as Milford.

I just can't resonate with Finch. I did listen to that podcast, which only affirmed my dislike of him.

The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Sorry spellchecking Police. But I use the original old English spelling and how many spelt it at Kambah and Holder high, see etymology of the word.

Amend to Booner, Bevan, Westie etc etc if you wish.

'Booner' is one of the very few Canberra specific terms I can think of.

Sadly it seems to very much in decline these days.
