Re: The Cricket Thread
I agree with the above. But seems like a deflection tactic given their 5 player breach.
U wanna play, and you wanna get paid, suck it up. Its the world we live in.

Play in Brisbane under strict bio-security measures or stay in Sydney and have more freedom of movement. I can understand their position.

I should add, in either location, they are far safer than if they are at home.

Actually no. The alternative is 2 games in Sydney, which is what's being requested. They'll still get paid.Matt wrote: ↑January 3, 2021, 1:04 pmI get it too, but its the world we live in. If CA and Australia deem it safe, do you really think that gets granted? I still see deflection tactics.Northern Raider wrote: ↑January 3, 2021, 2:07 pmActually no. Also, 2 games on the pitch that suits them the best, in this country, having refused to play on the one that suits them the least, AND, changed the Gabba away from the 1st Test. That would be a great turn of events.
Re: The Cricket Thread
No, what are India actually going to do? Go home?
They don't let players play in the BBL, so they might try and ban Australian players from the IPL.. so what

Re: The Cricket Thread
It's not a question of deeming it safe. It's about the bio-security measures being put in place i.e. quarantined in hotels outside of playing time. Indian players saying "no thanks, had enough of that". QLD Government have not put these requirements on players for their own safety.Matt wrote: ↑January 3, 2021, 8:13 pmIf CA and Australia deem it safe, do you really think that gets granted? It's also given India a great excuse to get away from playing at the Gabba where they have a poor record. Of course it should be recognised that the Gabba is not the seaming green top it used to be. The new drop in pitch is much slower. India have only played 1 test there in the last 17 years so don't have much exposure to the most recent pitch.
I'm sure the SCG Trust would be encouraging a change too.

Re: The Cricket Thread
ACB are probably happy to have 2 tests in Sydney.

Re: The Cricket Thread
For some reason I thought it was only a 3 test series so this gabba talk came as a surprise. Not sure that the Indian side should be concerned about playing in Brisbane with their bowling attack, coupled with our batting issues.

Re: The Cricket Thread
True but I still don't think their batsmen want to face Starc, Cummings and Hazelwood on a fast, green deck. That's an outdated reputation though. Truth is the pitch will hold no more demons than Adelaide or Melbourne.gergreg wrote: ↑January 4, 2021, 2:02 pmFor some reason I thought it was only a 3 test series so this gabba talk came as a surprise. This was part of my point ^^^.
However, I agree with the others RE the not so Gabba, Gabba pitch.
Re: The Cricket Thread
Watch them move it to Sydney and then it rains for the next 2 weeks.

@bonehead,
How does that compare to ABD, Smith and Kohli? As his current peers?

Im sure no one is surprised but, looks like Pucovski is a very serious debut chance.

Smith shows a pretty decent gap on Williamson at test level against the top test nations, England, India and Sth Africa.Matt wrote:@bonehead,

I realise I'm not comparing against all 3 forms but right now they are both just gone through 7000 test runs.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Can be hard for a good player in a weak team playing against a strong team. The strong team really target the good player with the best of their attack, there is also additional pressure when your fellow batsmen keep getting out.
Certainly Kane Williamson is up with the best. I’d still rank Kohli and Smith very slightly above him.

Re: The Cricket Thread
What impresses me the most about KWilliamson is how he compares/where he stands amount NZs top run scorers.
I believe he currently sits 3rd on that list. Ross Taylor and Stephen Fleming are above him. Williamson isn’t that fair behind Taylor(1st). It’s maybe 300 runs?. Williamson has played 25 less test matches.
He’s up there with the best and should be in any conversation.

Yeah I always thought that was what made a guy like Lara so great as well, he generally played in fairly weak West Indian sides in the mid-latter part of his career and yet still came up with some amazing innings.

Those stats tell me that Smith, Kholi and ABDV all struggle against the Bangas.
