Ive actually been looking at Watto vs Flintoff today, and their numbers in Tests and ODIs are actually pretty similar.Northern Raider wrote: ↑December 22, 2020, 10:16 amWatto was the closest we've had. Not quite good enough with either bat or ball though. You need someone who can legitimately hold their place in the team with either discipline. Green has that potential.bonehead wrote: ↑December 21, 2020, 3:28 pmwe've been dreaming of a Jacques kallis since Steve waugh gave up bowling, Green is the next in the queue.Matt wrote:TBH, another game to assess who, is beneficial. Becomes a 3 way bat off. Burns vs Wade vs Head. I really really really think they like what they see in Green and wanna see more.

Tests, Freddie played 20 more than Watto - 79 vs 59.
Batting:
Watto is approx 100 runs less, slightly better avg, 32 vs 35 for Watto. 2 less 100s, 2 less 50s. Basically, Watto went big or less than 15, his skyline is very up and down.
Watto is clearly the better bat, but Avg doesn't really reflect it, hence the countries frustration.
Bowling
Avg is similar, in the early 30s - 32 vs 33 for Watto. Wattos has the better Econ, 2.75 vs 2.97. MASSIVE wickets difference though, 75 vs 226 Freddie. His strike rate is better too 66 vs 73.
ODIs.
Freddie 141 games, 169 wickets @ 24.38, and econ of 4.39. Batting avg 32, 3x100 and 18x 50.
Watto 190 games, 168 wickets @ 31.79, and econ of 4.95. Batting avg 40, 9x 100 and 33x 50.
Watto was very much under appreciated. He was still a waste of talent at Test level.
BTW, Shaun Pollock's Test record is worth another look. Certainly a bowler 1st, but avg batting avg of 32
