The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

Lining up for cheap fuel at Edgeworth..it was 94.7 for regular unleaded 91.

There’s cars backed up out the servo and far as the eye can see. Everybody’s being patient. I’m crawling closer to the bowser, it’s two at a time, I’m next.

The bloke in front me in his 1983 Toyota Hiace has pumped his petrol and gone in to pay. I’m getting ready to crawl forward the moment I see him come out of the shop..I’d been in this queue for about 15-20mins. I’m in a good mood, breathing easy until..

Hiace boy comes out and decides now would be a good time to clean his windscreen..

And my good mood evaporates.

Costco membership. E10 hasn’t been over 1.20L in the 3 years I’ve been using it. Had a month of being consistently under $1.00L
Feel free to call me RickyRicky StickStick if you like. I will also accept Super Fui, King Brad, Kid Dynamite, Chocolate-Thunda... or Brad.

It hasn’t been too bad to be honest. My membership pays for itself just on fuel. Plus it’s self-serve. No mucking about paying for it at a checkout.

Anyone who's waiting half an hour for fuel to save five or ten bucks is overcapitalising on their free time, IMO.

Oh yeah, I absolutely understand why people short of a buck are queuing up around the block to get cheaper fuel, but unless you're in that situation, wasting half an hour of your spare time to save 10 bucks is only worthwhile if you earn less than 20 bucks an hour at your job.

Otherwise, like I said, you're overcapitilising on your time.

Tell me Nickman.

How many kilometres are you racking up per week for work ?

Cheap fuel is a blessing in modern times no matter what your bank balance.

I can drive 7kms south to Toronto and pay $1.45 a litre OR 7kms north to Edgeworth and pay 94c.

Yes..I’m lining up for that.

I saved 50c per litre and put 60 litres in the tank. That’s $30?. Over a year that’s plenty in my pocket.

Still, 50c a litre sounds significant, much better than people who cross town to save 10c.

Still... doing the maths here, if I get 60L of fuel and save 50c a litre I'm saving 30 bucks. I get paid more than 60 bucks an hour, so queueing up for half an hour for that saving is not worth my spare time.

I could see why it would be for someone who is either a) paid less or 2) has a bigger tank.

EDIT: looks like I nailed the sums perfectly.

I’m at fault for lining up anyway. It’s was 4pm and there were thousands of cars on the road. I could have waited till midnight..no lining up.

If there’s two servos in town and there’s a 51c diff in prices who’s seriously going to the expensive one.

There’s a Facebook page encouraging people to boycott the 3 servos in Toronto..no crap !!!

That's fair enough

When you think Costco are selling at cost price or minimal loss as they make money back through memberships, it's obvious that anywhere that's that much difference is gouging the **** out of customers.

Nice Boney. I’ve sold a few things through Marketplace. I’ve deleted FB, and I keep forgetting that means I’ve deleted MP also lol.

Keen to try and find an old Raiders Superleague jersey. I think I’m one of the only people to like that Jersey
