The Tigers are muppets but with Benji finishing his time with them it will be a tight one vs the Eels. We are definitely a shot at 4th aye.

While we have had some dumb losses this year, IMO given Eels have had so much advantage with their travel schedule compared to us I think it would be fair enough for us to land 4th.

Re: 2020 Rd 20 V Sharks: Teams and Previews
Yes
There should be some kind of VB hard earned index for entire clubs.
Then base the top 8 on that.
Eels would be last.
Cmon, Vlandys, make it happen.

Re: 2020 Rd 20 V Sharks: Teams and Previews
**** shame we aren't playing after the Eels instead of immediately before them - missing out on a potentially big advantage here. If we were able to know they've won I'd be resting at least three or four players, but looks like we can't get away with any.
Re: 2020 Rd 20 V Sharks: Teams and Previews
It's BRUTAL
If they played first and won, you'd have to really think about resting a ton of players... CNK, Papalii, Whitehead, Bateman, Rapana and maybe even Tapine could all use a breather imo. Basically if they played first and won i'd probably run out the closest thing to a reserve grade team
But we really cant justify it now because its a small chance, but any chance we've got to sneak into that top 4 would be massive
Re: 2020 Rd 20 V Sharks: Teams and Previews
I'm resting Bateman anyway, get that shoulder and elbow as good as you can

Re: 2020 Rd 20 V Sharks: Teams and Previews
I agree but it also puts added pressure on the Eels if they know the Raiders have already won their match. The added pressure and the Tigers farewelling key figures could be the recipe for a choke.
Re: 2020 Rd 20 V Sharks: Teams and Previews
With Sia ready to go, i will SHOCKED if Papalii plays this game. Even with the ability to earn a top 4 spot if the Eels **** up, i think they need to get some legs into Sia and Papalii needs a break to try and get healthy
Re: 2020 Rd 20 V Sharks: Teams and Previews
I'd be giving one of Jack or George the first rights, followed by Papa. They're our three most important guys in this tilt at the premiership, and they've played all season I think.Botman wrote: ↑September 20, 2020, 6:36 pmIt's BRUTAL

Think George going off showed how much worse and muddled we are without him, especially from a game management and sustained pressure perspective. Jack gave pretty strong indications that he's not a player that should be playing both sides of the ruck as first receiver, and needs someone there to guide him. Would love to have them both wrapped up in cotton wool, but it's unaffordable.
Re: 2020 Rd 20 V Sharks: Teams and Previews
Honestly if the eels played first and won, i'd be willing to sit CNK, Croker, Wighton, George, Papalii, Whitehead, Bateman and Tapine
Rules on naming teams wouldnt allow that, so you might have to end up playing some of them on the bench with no intention to use them. But it's all moot, i think Stuart will give Papa a rest and that's it. Everyone else will be full go trying to get that top 4 spot.

The top 8 is all but locked in. 1-2 are locked 3-5 might move, 6-8 are locked. Best we can do is 4th which gets us an away match against Penrith, stuff that. Rest everyone we can, take the home final against the Sharks.

Also if we are 5th we beat the Sharks, then the Eels, then the Storm for a Grand final rematch (so I'm assuming it goes Panthers(W) V Eels(L), Raiders(W) V Sharks(L), Knights(L) V Rabbits(W), Storm(W) V Roosters(L), then Eels(L) V Raiders(W), Roosters(W) V Rabbits(L), then Panthers(L) V Roosters(W), Storm(L) V Raiders(W).

Assuming we want to play full strength, then Soliola in, Sutton out
Sutton's been good but still has the oopsies sometimes and isn't a threat with the ball like Soliola. Soliola also leads our line speed. It's a tough call but should be made come finals time. And he should play this week to warm up

The only players I'd consider resting are Papalii and Valemei - and that's because somebody has to make way for Soliola and Scott if they are fit. If we start well, then I'd be benching Whitehead to get more minutes into CHN.
George Williams had a rest this week after playing only 10 mins.
This team needs minutes playing together.

No point resting players given there are very few games left this season.
We are also likely to play the Sharks back to back and need all the cohesion we can get in attack.

Re: 2020 Rd 20 V Sharks: Teams and Previews
If there's players that genuinely need a rest due to injury etc. then that's fine but otherwise we should be throwing everything we have at this game. The main issue we have had is our cohesion in attack and we won't take any steps in the right direction there with key players missing. We should also be aiming to break the Sharks spirit to the point where they genuinely feel deep in their hearts that they are just making up the numbers and cannot beat us in the finals.
We should also be thinking that if the Eels fall over we can beat the Panthers week 1 and take their spot in the draw and be one win away from the grand final.
I am sure that Ricky will do what's right for the team and after resting players against the Warriors last year and losing we played fantastic through the finals so he seems to know what he's doing.

I'd be starting Soliola and running him till he's gassed. 2 stints. Bateman to get a week to fix the elbow. Hudson to start on the right.
The rest of the side pretty much picks itself and you can adjust minutes or bench someone to rest.
