2020 Rd 19 V Warriors: Fans' Choice Player of the Year

2020 Fans' Choice Player of the Year

Image

The Fans' Choice Player of the Year has been awarded since 2004 with an impressive roll call of winners, including Ruben Wiki, Alan Tongue, Terry Campese, Shaun Fensom, Jarrod Croker, Josh Hodgson, Jordan Rapana and Nick Cotric. Josh Papalii won the award for a record third time in 2019. An individual trophy, sponsored by The Greenhouse, is presented to the winning player at season's end.

We have built a great tradition with this award at The GH, and you can be part of it!

Who will be the winner in 2020? It is you who will decide!

In the Fans' Choice Player of the Year, you can register your votes here for the top performed Raiders player, on a 3-2-1 basis. The rules are you can only allocate 6 points or less each round, and can split them any way you like, but no "half" points are permitted and no player can be awarded more than 3 points.

So, you can give the best player 3 points, the second best 2 and the third best 1, in the traditional way. Or you can give two players 3 points each. Or you can give 3 players 2 points each etc. No half points are permitted.

At sometime after Tuesday each week, all the points awarded by everyone to each player each round will be aggregated and then the top three players will be awarded 3, 2, 1 points.

Only votes made by Raiders fans in posts on this thread on The Greenhouse and in response to the post on The Greenhouse Facebook Group will count.

In this thread, feel free to speculate on who will be the player of the round prior to the match.

But 3-2-1 votes can only be made AFTER completion of the match in this thread.

3. Elliott Whitehead - Should be the first grade captain next year. When the game was unravelling, he took over.
2. Hudson Young - Good involvement throughout.
1. Semi Valemei - Been waiting for the new Noa to start running in length of the field jobs. Today's was timely.

Honourable mention - CNK. Good involvement all game.

Lui was as professional as ever in defence and attack, Bateman was tough and the refs were absolutely woeful helping to create a scrappy game.

CNK got a point for just how tough he had to play today. Really respect those kind of performances.

Nowhere. Whitehead would need their support to be successful in the role.

They should be vice-captains. I think there should be a change in the captaincy next year to freshen things up.

No big deal. We've done it before.

I’m interested in this, Sleek. I certainly see the captaincy qualities in Elliott and am a massive fan. Two questions though:

1) Don’t you think it would be a huge deal to take the captaincy off Hodgo and particularly Croker?

2) When did we do it before?

1. No. The captaincy is a privilege, not a right. In Croker's case, I think he's had a very long run in the position with sfa success outside of last year when he shared the job with Hodgson. I'd also keep both on as vice-captains of the side so it's not like they wouldn't still have major input into what's going on. I see it as a move that recognises Whitehead's on-field leadership qualities that were obvious to anyone who watched the game today.

2. In 1989, before we won our first premiership.
