Papalii re-signs to end 2024, option for 2025
Papalii is set to become a Raider for life
Josh Papalii looks set to wear the famous lime green until at least the end of 2024. Raiders boss Don Furner says Papalii was signed until the end of 2022, but they were at the "at the pointy end of discussions" about adding a further two seasons, and a deal could even be struck by the end of this week.

The Raiders are on the verge of extending club great Josh Papalii’s contract through to the end of 2024.
“If anyone deserves an extension at the moment at our club, it’s Josh Papalii,” Furner said. “We’ve been working on the two-year extension for a while and it’s progressing well. He’s happy here and he wants the security.”

Papalii to become a Raider for life, set to re-sign to end 2024
"At the end of his career we want him to be a one club player": Ricky Stuart
Canberra coach Ricky Stuart says he wants to make Josh Papalii a one club player, forever a favourite son of the Raiders faithful.
Raiders CEO Don Furner has revealed that the club is at an advanced stage of extending the contract of the Maroons and Kangaroos prop to the end of 2024 - keeping him at the club for an additional two seasons.
And the club does not believe that there is any player more worthy of an extension.
"At the end of his career we want him to be a one club player," Stuart said today.
"I talked very glowingly about him after the game on the weekend and I don't take that back."
"He's one of our favourites here. I see him as a big part of this club going forward for a number of years. Hopefully being in the community and always being that Raider, that favourite son."
"I'm very fortunate being able to coach a player such as Josh."
Stuart was still full of admiration for Papalii's chase on runaway half Jamal Fogarty in Saturday's clash with the Gold Coast Titans. Papalii hit 31.7 kilometres an hour before diving at Fogarty's feet, the ankle tap saving an almost certain try.
"That was an enormous effort from Josh, but it shouldn't have got to that," Stuart said.
"There were a couple of individuals that didn't fall into their job at that moment, and it created that line break."
"We read a good story of what Josh's contribution was there. And it was enormous. It doesn't surprise us with Josh. We see something a little like that each week."
Stuart calls moments like the Papalii ankle tap, a "Dean Lance" contribution. It is the sort of effort that former Raiders captain Dean Lance put in week after week in the Raiders’ early days.
Anyone who has seen the 1989 Grand Final will know what Stuart is talking about. In that match, Lance hammered the Tigers' representative prop Steve Roach - a Kangaroos representative, a much bulkier player. It inspired the Canberra forward pack to reach even greater heights that day.
But Stuart says those Dean Lance contributions are often things are not obvious to casual observers.
"We talk about "Dean Lance" contributions and those contributions are things that commentators or the people in the stands don't see," Stuart said.
"It is only noticed by the coaches or the players on the field at the time.
"But everybody noticed that one [Papalii's ankle tap]."
"It was very nice to see that type of care from a guy like Papa."

Big Papa is a winner.
I really hope we can reward his service to the club with at least one premiership before he retires.

$700,000 a season? Papa’s a $800,000 a season player! Come on Raiders, pay him what he is worth, maybe chuck in his Federal Golf club membership and a new set of sticks!
Re: Papalii to become a Raider for life, set to re-sign to end 2024
Im sure many of you would agree when i say we are a completely different outfit when he is off the field. Week after week i take note of when he comes off and it's incredible the impact he has. It was there to see again against the titans. Comes on when it is 6 all. Leaves when we are comfortably in front, then we struggle to score points... bloke does it week after week. The upshot is im stoked by the prospect of having this bloke around for 4 more years. On par with lolo as best middle in the game at the moment

Goog now can Sims stop calling him papali'ii like the warriors player, the guy is one of the best fron rowers in the league and she calls by the name of a player with 2 years experience

Josh Papalii says family a consideration in contract call, but hopes to remain with Canberra Raiders for a long time
The Canberra Raiders want Josh Papalii to be a Raider for life. Coach Ricky Stuart says Papalii will go down as one of the all time Raiders greats when he retires - a comment backed up by Raiders Immortal Mal Meninga.
The club is aiming to extend the contract of the inspirational forward until the end of 2024.
But Papalii says there are "a few little things" that need to fall the right way before a deal can be done. He wants to stay in green, but says that family in Brisbane is also an important consideration.
"Canberra's been home for me for the last 10 years," Papalii said today.
"I've still got two years left on my contract. I'm speaking to the club now about a few things. But my wife and I have to consider our parents getting a little bit older back in Brissy. Then obviously, we've got no family down here."
"We're talking to the club right now. There's a few little things that need to fall in our favour and hopefully see me here for a long time."
Papalii was typically humble about Stuart's praise.
"I only heard rumours about that comment," Papalii said.
"It's probably one I don't take lightly, for your coach to say that about you."
"I feel like my best footy is still ahead. Obviously it just pushes me to become a better player."
"I don't think I'm as good as the players that played before me. I don't think I'll ever be as good and that's fine. I'll just willing to do my job and do it as best as I can, and that's all I can do."

The way the Roosters set up SBW on his return should be a good guide. Let’s get Kenty doing some few good stories about the Raiders relocating the family from Brissie, buying toys for the family etc
Feel free to call me RickyRicky StickStick if you like. I will also accept Super Fui, King Brad, Kid Dynamite, Chocolate-Thunda... or Brad.

I cant help but think the bronxos are at it again, trying to poach a player mid contract. What he said isnt at all logical.. We are talking about 2 more years, not 20 years. Why would he think his parents situation would change in that time?

Should change the title of this thread to "Papalii set to join Broncos/Titans"
