Perhaps Group 8 and Group 9 should come together this year. I think there should be a real focus on having some sort of comp this year.

I think it is really important for the players and the local community.

Canberra Raiders Cup fate rests in three clubs' hands

The Canberra Raiders Cup needs a minimum of four teams to go ahead this season. It's means the fate of a 2020 competition rests in the hands of the Queanbeyan Blues, Goulburn Bulldogs or Belconnen United Sharks.

Currently, the Gungahlin Bulls, Woden Valley Rams and Yass Magpies have all said they're in, while the Tuggeranong Bushrangers, West Belconnen Warriors and Queanbeyan Kangaroos are out.

Canberra Raiders under 20s join four-team Canberra Raiders Cup

The Canberra Raiders' Jersey Flegg Cup side will be included in the Canberra Raiders Cup, which is likely to go ahead as a four-team competition. They’ll join the Queanbeyan Blues, Gungahlin Bulls and Woden Valley Rams, after the Goulburn Bulldogs and Yass Magpies opted to withdraw this week. The West Belconnen Warriors, Queanbeyan Kangaroos, Belconnen Sharks and Tuggeranong Bushrangers had already pulled out.

Canberra Raiders Cup decides on Grand Final on 27 September

The Canberra Raiders could win the competition named after them, with the weekend of September 27 set to host the grand final. Four teams - reigning premiers Queanbeyan Blues, Woden Valley Rams, Gungahlin Bulls and the Raiders under-20s - playing each other three times before the top two go straight into a decider.

Canberra Raiders Cup competition to proceed in 2020

Canberra Region Rugby League is pleased to announce the Canberra Raiders Cup first grade competition will go ahead this 2020 season. Four teams will take part in the competition: Queanbeyan Blues, Gungahlin Bulls, Woden Valley Rams, and the Canberra Raiders Under 20’s side.

“It’s a great positive for our team. Missing out on football this year would have been a detriment to our players, so for them to get a week in week out competition is great,” Raiders Under 20s coach Ash Barnes said.

I think it would depend on the detail of the latest biosecurity protocols, if players in the top squad can play in lower tier competitions. I somehow doubt it. Not sure if Timoko is in the bubble or not, HHS should be.

I think what is more likely to happen is as the bubble restrictions reduce, there will be matches between the fringe NRL players. As I understand it, there is not a NRL bubble, rather there is 16 separate bubbles apart from when teams play each other.

Therefore you can’t have a situation where two teams left over players form one to play against another club which is what I think you would have to do to have 13 a side games.

Also there has been a problem with venues. They wanted to keep to as few a possible and that caused issues with the surface, if you had reserve grade games it would be even worse.

On checking, HSS and Timoko are both over 20 now so probably aren't eligible anyway to play in the Jersey Flegg team in the Canberra Raiders Cup. Mariota would be under 20 though, not sure if there are others in the bubble Under 20. In any event, at the moment, the Raiders players in the bubble cannot play with those outside it.

Harley Smith-Shields is born 12 January 2000 and Matt Timoko 18 January 2000 so would have been eligible to play Jersey Flegg this year, however I am sure will not be allowed outside the bubble.

Return of revamped Canberra Raiders Cup could be delayed amid new coronavirus concerns

Canberra's contact sporting competitions are in danger of being delayed again, with ACT chief health officer Dr Kerryn Coleman set to decide their fate just two days before they were scheduled to start.

"If anything is happening this weekend then no [it can't go ahead]," Coleman said when asked about contact sports. "I will be conducting a small check point on Thursday of next week noting that this is just one small activity of the suite and we might be able to provide some clarity around that.

Welcome to our coverage of today’s CRRL Cup match between the Woden Valley Rams and the Canberra Raiders Under 20’s. We will have live scores from 3pm right here. Cool conditions, overcast, but there’s a bit of blue about too.

It was 6-6 at half time between the Woden Valley Rams and UC Stars in reserves, the Rams now lead 10-6 early in the second half.

Very intense... both teams are down to 12 men after an altercation.
