Ctr/Winger:
Alex Johnson* Wouldn’t come
Sione Katoa Wouldn’t come
William Kennedy - possible
Brendan Elliot - attainable
Nicho Hynes (Could play wing/back up FB/Halves)* attainable
Marion Seve Wouldn’t come
George Jennings* wouldn’t come Malakai Watene - not likely
Euan Aitken* not likely
Tristan Sailor - possible as he is not playing first grade
Ryan Hall - Wouldn’t leave the Roosters Matt Ikavalu - Wouldn’t leave the Roosters
Morris Brothers Wouldn’t leave the Roosters
Robert Jennings - Wouldn’t come
Brad Takirangi - probably retire
2nd Row/Fwd:
Corey Oates - Wouldn’t come
David Fifita - forget about it
Raymond Faitala-Mariner - will stay at the dogs
Adam Elliot - not likely (ordinary anyway)
CHN - not likely
Tony Williams - not likely (should retire)
Jesse Bromwich - forget about it
Christian Welch - won’t come
Isaiah Papali'i* won’t come
Tautau Moga - won’t come
Jacob Saifiti - won’t leave Newcastle John Asiata - will go to the Titans
Mitchell Dunn - won’t leave Cowboys
Peni Terepo - won’t come
Kane Evans - won’t come
James Tamou - forget about it
Josh Kerr - maybe
Matthew Eisenhuth - won’t come
Chris Lawrence - won’t come (should retire)
Chris McQueen - should retire
Elijah Taylor - won’t come
My Main targets are marked with a - we have to be realistic. We are most likely likely going to get plodders from clubs in the doldrums and even then as we have already seen outbid them. We won’t get anybody from high profile clubs unless they want to get rid of them or they are some junior
FYI - It also looks like both Havili and Starling are both off contract at the end of this year so we will need to resign them most likely - We will lose one or maybe both.

Thanks.
In all seriousness though a player just decided to play for a team with one win ahead of us. Our history also suggests that we buy reserve graders or fringe first graders rather than first graders or star players

Havili is a must. He’s proven to be one of the best moneyball signings of the Ricky era.
And surely we can and will retain Starling for not much.
As for the big list of potential recruits above, I reckon there are a few rated as no chance or “won’t come” that are gettable.

Johnstone - Bennett doesn't seem sold on him and might be a cap casualty.
Katoa - Opposite situation at Sharks. He'd be close to minimum and they have a lot of money tied up elsewhere and may not be able to offer him enough to stay.
George Jennings - stuck behind Ferg and Sivo. Will go somewhere for the opportunity.
Malakai W-Z - He's too far down the depth chart at Panthers.
Seve - Lost his spot to Brenko. Mainly because the was playing ****. A reserve player who may want a chance to start.
etc etc. I'm not going through the whole list.

CHN clearly a chance, Elliott only his GF wants to stay in Sydney stopping his signing

So could HSS be a legit option to replace Cotric, or do we all think he’s not ready yet?
If he’s not quite ready, we may not need a young, long term person

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
The second part of the question would be would you want to get them?
Johnston is too high profile and could easily find a gig at a Sydney club. Therefore you would have to spend more to get him.
George Jennings - should we be interested. He’s not very good. Again more likely to go to the Bulldogs or something
Seve - again not very good. The extra cost in getting him here would outweigh the benefits. I would run with HSS or Timoko.
Malakai - if he has hands like his brother then no.
Elliott - wouldn’t want to sign him. Fancy losing Bateman and replacing him with Adam Elliott
CHN - if he has other suitors then we are going to have to spend too much. I think he will go to the Dragons
Katoa - maybe but again would have Sydney clubs chasing
I would be looking at blokes who are totally under the radar. Caleb Atkins from the Panthers is worth a shot - can’t get a shot at the Panthers and plays fullback so not as likely to be chased hard by other clubs as most clubs have good fullbacks. Steven Marsters from the Rabbitohs is another as he is not going to get much time in the Rabbitohs backline.
For forwards maybe somebody like Emry Pere from the Cowboys

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
Not so sure Starling won't get interest. There's at least 3 or 4 very, very ordinary hookers going around. Manly would be SO much more dangerous with literally anyone except Levi impersonating a hooker.Ruben Daley wrote: ↑July 18, 2020, 9:04 am Havili is a must. Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
Most of those mentioned here recently are horrible players that aren’t even worth it as back up. HSS, Timoko and Valemei would be better options imo.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
I'd be happy enough to try and fill 2 places in our back 5 from Oldfield, HSS, Timoko, Valemi and Scott with another pre season in the gym and no court shennanigans on his back. I'm assuming Simo will be a fixture on one wing.
Given that mix and the "value for money" equation I think we'd be worthwhile offering Rapana another year next year- if we can get him for the right price. I don't think he'll be fielding big money offers anymore. Otherwise we'd need to bring in an experienced fringe FG back just to balance the risk.
We should be spending our $$$ on a quality edge forward. That assumes we will have Young back in the middle as a mobile/versatile bench forward. CHN fits the bill.
My second choice would be another quality yard making prop to share duties with Papa, with Young staying on the edge and we buy in a fringe/up and coming edge player for competition.
I'd only be going after an outside back if we move Scott along (pay 50-100k freight to make him attractive) and can't find a good forward as listed above. In that case, since all our junior backs are really unknowns and we might get bad luck and 3 misses or moderate at bests + Oldy and Rapana reached their ceiling a year or two ago and are now on the slide a bit- then recruit at outside back.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
If we could get both CHN and Alex Johnstone, I'll take that every day of the week
Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
None of those options are great
1. Scott is garbage and the sooner we rid ourselves of him the better. You only have to look at how such recruitment errors have lead to clubs going in free fall - take a look at the Broncos and Bulldogs or the Knights earlier. This Scott decision has already meant the loss of Leilua and Cotric.
The decision was and is flabbergasting. We’re paying a bloke who was playing Qld Cup last year $500k. We also have to remember that they let go of Will Chambers and still didn’t want him.
2. There are no good edge forwards besides Fifita. CHN is ok but it would still a massive net loss compared to Bateman. Maybe their is a really good junior or English backrower somewhere but not confident. Maybe a prop forward would be easier to get?
3. We need to buy a centre considering that Scott is crap and you would want younger players to start on the wing first. Problem is there are practically no good centres available - another reason showing how bad this Scott decision is. Maybe it would be easier to buy a fullback and move CNK to centre?

As good as the Havilii/Starling combo was, I would not be surprised to see Nathan Peats in green for the rest of the season.
On that note, I reckon we might be looking at Ryan James from ‘21 onwards.

Exactly. If we want backs target either Penrith, Souths or Parra I reckon. They’ve plenty of backline talent

I do like Ryan James, I'm pretty confident Peats bagged the raiders when he signed with the titansMitch_Raider wrote:As good as the Havilii/Starling combo was, I would not be surprised to see Nathan Peats in green for the rest of the season.

Ryan James is coming back after back to back serious knee injuries. Not an easy thing to do. I wouldn't mind seeing him play out his career at the Titans, he carried that team for a few years.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
My first choice in the forwards would be Dale Finucane. Covers lock and/or prop and is from Bega. Probably take every cent of the offer to Bateman to get him in green.
In the outside backs I'd like to see Tristan Sailor get an opportunity, he is a potential superstar with some bulking up. There's also Ethan Parry who used to play for Parra? Jake Averillo also looks likely.

Re: Raiders player signing speculation 2020
Ryan James is what earned JWH the nickname "Maria" until Robinson came on board and molded him into one of the best in the game. Got all the physical tools and should be a dominant middle third player, and in some games he is, but in most games he's nothing close to it.
Hard pass on James. Especially with the injuries you've outlined.
