Also the roosters had some utterly gutless defense. Tedesco could absolutely made contact on Papalii imo
utterly gutless defence ey? That's why the entire game was hugely defensive and we had to bust our **** backsides to earn the win. Go support afl champ.
Edit: just saw you said tedesco could of made contact on papalii sure he could of made contact but do you seriously think he was better than buckley's chance off stopping a barnstorming josh papalii? You're bloody dreaming.
Id be extremely disappointed in CNK if he didnt at least make contact with JWH or whoever in the same position. It was a poor effort. Tedesco got out muscled by Williams and he didnt even attempt to stop Papalii. Its poor form from a fullback.
Its not the job of a professional fullback to be like yep ive got no chance. Best not even try.
I don’t think we win that game tonight if havili shared the hooking role evenly with starling, I thought starling was very sharp, had a good game and gave the halves some good clean ball.
I thought Havili was really solid in defence in the first half when we were under the pump. Him taking on that heavy load early in the game really allowed Starling to shine in the second half (when the Roosters coughed up much more ball).
They definitely bring different skill sets to the table. A really good combination. I've been looking forward to it all week.

Also just watched the Stuart interview:
*Talking about Papalii*
"When he got whacked in the nose, I don't understand why we didn't get the penalty, but when he got whacked in the nose like that I was pretty confident we were going to go on to win it because they, poked the bear"
That needs to be a sign at the next home game we have crowds at
Papa being penalised for getting elbowed in the head by Crichton was a critical point in the game. You could see in Papalii's eyes that he was going to (quietly) give it to them when the game restarted. In fact, the whole team responded really well.
Both Crichton and JWH could have been penalised half a dozen times for locking players up in the tackle. The ref was turning a blind eye to it all game. It was like the Storm game. Add to that the two "head high"penalties that Morris absolutely milked in the second half and I think our boys can walk away from that game knowing we ultimately got the better of them when the game was on the line.

Anybody else get a piece of the $5.00 for a Raiders win.
They even out to $5.40 before kickoff. Was going to have another crack but let it slide.
Yep. And Paps to score anytime at $11. It is one of the great gravy trains to bet on Paps. Against the better sides he is typically posted between $8-11. He has scored (almost bang on) a try every 4 games for the past 6 years - and without doing any solid numbers on it I would think more likely against the better sides (so at the longer odds)
I don't typically bet on the footy, I just had a feeling about this game.....anger and revenge are great motivations.
Actually I picked the Raiders to win by 4 in the tipping comp at work.
My shining moment considering my less than stellar performance thus far
I saw on Twitter that someone picked Croker, Papa, Morris, and Ikuvalu for anytime tryscorer but the Raiders to win. He won like $20,000 out of a $50 bet! I guess there are a lot of happy and rich Raiders punters this morning? Although I got a laugh out of all the comments that pretty much everyone lost on first try scorer because no-one would have picked Lui. I wonder if you could even get odds on that?
Re-watching the second half this morning and man, oh man, that CNK kick through for Croker is sweet. I know Gould got a lot of **** last night for calling Croker the best kick chaser in the world, but I mean, he's really good at sneaking through like that. Apparently that was only the second kick of CNK's career? CNK, do that more often! I imagine we won't be able to spring that surprise too many times more now that we've done it once, but we've opened up that option as an attacking play more often.
And to all the people who doubted me, hello to them as well. - Mark Webber, Raiders Ballboy and Unluckiest F1 Driver Ever
I'm attacking in the right way, instead of just...attacking in the general direction. - Max Aaron (also eerily apropos for the Green Machine)
hahah absolutely incredible reading through this thread and seeing people still bagging the team. Or is it? Guess I should expect it on here
Incredible win. Actually think the score flattered them, we take our chances we win by 10-16. Yeah sure the roosters weren't good, nowhere near their best but I couldn't give a toss. Starling outstanding. Several great players for us. Missed 21 tackles (our least for the season).
Others have touched on it, and sure it's only 1 game but that's as good as we've attacked all year and I don't think it's a coincidence we did it without Hodgson. Could be talking out my ass and we may still have won that had he played, 1 game isn't enough of a sample size admittedly but I've been harping on about it for ages. Clean early ball to the halves...
Hahaha! Still watching the replay, and we just got to the bit where Papa got penalised for getting elbowed, and one of the Fox commentators says "they poked the bear...you'd have to think if the Raiders go on to win, this man [Papa] will be a big part of it." Okay Nostradamus! What's the lotto numbers!

I think we could have tried an early grubber a few more times. Commentators mentioned that it was a great gameplan to beat them through the middle but we really had no choice as their outside backs were clearly offside. Everytime Williams or Wighton got the ball and looked out wide Morris and Manu were already there in support.
That was a brave effort from the team. All heart! I reckon that was Lui’s best game as a raider and he showed why Ricky values him so highly. Really good in attack and defence.
The hooking rotation was spot on and I was really impressed by Starling. He was good with the ball and his defence was punching well above his weight.
Wighton and Williams went well in taking more control of the team.
The Croker and CNK bashing here is it of control. The try they combined for was fantastic and while passing hasn’t been a huge part of CNKs game it is clearly an area of the game he is working on. It’s his second full season of first grade and everyone expects him to be Tedesco. ****! Crocker has also been playing well this year, hitting harder in defence and while his miss on Tedesco was bad Tedesco will make plenty of quality players look dumb this year. That edge hasn’t been out defensive weakness this year at all!
Have to be proud of how this team responded to adversity. To be on equal premiership points with the chooks is an amazing effort. The challenge now is to be able to reproduce that effort consistently over the coming months.
Was a great win and boy did we need it. But unlike some people here, I think it's pretty clear there is still a lot to work on and that was not a pretty win. A gutsy win let's say.
Two main problem areas for mine were again the majority of the game with one dimensional attack (especially first half) which gave us so little metres and forced us to defend in our half for ages. We started to spread it more in the second but this needs to be the norm.
Other area was 6th tackle options. The no kick tactic at the end especially was so frustrating. Inviting them back into it over and over. Is there that little confidence in the kickers that they are too scared to give away a 7 tackle set? Need to use Williams in that scenario more. It's cost us so much in the past and will continue to.
Otherwise, great defence and great determination. Some of the guys really stepped up unexpectedly e.g. Lui, Starling which was pleasing so need to build on this for next week!

Good shout on Lui.
I've been pretty critical of him over his time here but he's stepped up in a big way since our middles have been decimated. He was good last week and i think last night was probably his best game in FG. He took it right to the roosters forwards and imo had their measure.

That win was immense. Reminds me of a Raiders win against the chooks about 20 years ago when Jason Croker played with a torn ACL.
Jarrod*
No it was Jason. The bench was down to one player by half time. From memory that was his last game for the season because of it.

Definitely Jerwood Crocker and Marchill Chalk, I can still hear Rabbits Warren calling their names.

Watch the replay again. He was one in a billion chance of stopping papalii. What's the point of throwing yourself at papalii or onto the ground and potentially getting injured, all for what??? Just to make it look like he made an effort? Please.

I also thought instantly of this victory! I thought Croker did an achilles though, or perhaps even a lower leg fracture? Either way, a legendary performance.
That was amazing last night. Irrespective of what happens this season everyone involved should be really proud of that performance. Papa and Lui the best on ground for mine.

Jesus christ, can you not just enjoy one of the best wins in recent history? No matter what we do it's never good enough for the people on this site. If we won the premiership people would be saying "papalii didn't do enough, charnze should of passed more, our performance wasn't good enough" etc etc etc.
Did you seriously expect a perfect, polished performance given the circumstances? We went above and beyond to play the way we did and we still have people here who want to complain. Good **** grief.
For the record, I don't know If you realised but handing over the ball on the last tackle mere metres or inches from their line is a TACTIC. It forces the opposition to do the hard yards when the pressure is on them and with the clock counting down. I was actually really happy every time we did that at the end, it what you should be doing.

Holy **** Brandy brought up that Croker was ruled to have played at the ball when he turned his back, but that Cordner was ruled not to have! Wow!
I can not stand listening to brandy's dribble. Every chance he gets to say something negative about the raiders, and he takes it!

Please explain what was not good about the roosters? They came at us all night and wouldn't go away. I didn't notice them do much wrong at all, they threw everything at us and we just outplayed them. People on this forum have a fear of admitting that though.
If we win its because the opposition was ****, not because we were good. Never forget that raiders fans!!!!
