Josh Hodgson and Bailey Simonsson ruled out for 2020 season

Canberra Raiders co-captain Josh Hodgson suffers suspected ACL tear

The Raiders have suffered a devastating blow in the first half of their 20-14 loss to the Storm with inspirational co-captain Josh Hodgson leaving the field with a suspected ACL injury to his right knee.

Hodgson, who had a reconstruction on his left knee in 2017, hobbled from the field in the 28th minute after rushing up in defence to tackle Cameron Smith – his knee buckling in the process.

Josh Hodgson blow compounds Canberra Raiders' Melbourne Storm loss

It was a horror two minutes. Firstly for Josh Hodgson and the Canberra Raiders. Secondly for the NRL's bunker.

Hodgson's season appears to be over with the Raiders co-captain limping off with a suspected torn anterior cruciate ligament.

We've dropped down to 8th in the outright betting. A fair drop I'd say.

For our squad to win it, you need the planets to align and unfortunately this year it's not happening. Important to still get to the 8 and into the second round or something similar. Would now be a very successful year to build momentum into 2021.

This year's a fake year anyway and with a likely second wave in NSW we probably couldn't watch the GF even if we were in it.

Onwards I say.

The result tonight was a mere footnote.

When you saw Hodgson go down without any contact you knew our season was up in flames.

Let’s start the this year is a ‘fake year’ now our best players gone done.

Huge crash back to earth for us tonight, we still had hope to turn it around before Josh’s knee went.

Sad day for the Raiders family.

Poor guy. He's been great for the club, he gives his all to the game AND to the fans. He cuts no corners in his preparation and does everything professionally right with regards to looking after his body (not being mad on the turps etc). He really didn't deserve this.

Is it the same one that went last time?

Watching again it looks like he steps on the Storm players foot. As small as the chance is the way the knee twists I am just hoping it is an MCL. Maybe I am still in the 1st stage of grief.

Starling could kill it out there with these ruck interpretations.

I think the combo of him and Havili means our opposition will have no idea what's coming.

We absolutely cannot catch a break. How many season-ending injuries have we had in the last couple of weeks? Horse, Sia, Guler, now Hodgo, and Bateman still weeks away. It's insane.

It's not great and I'd say it's enough to kill our chances of a premiership. Those that win it are generally the ones near full strength come finals. Might just have to accept it's not our year. On the plus side it's an opportunity for guys like Wighton and Williams to step up to another level. If we are going to give it a decent crack this year it's going to be them that take us there.

I’m actually now looking forward to seeing how RS manages the forward rotation and where Scott will slot in with Bailey Simonnson gone, I’m hoping Starling gets a start with Havili off the bench, TBH having Hodgo missing could be a chance for these blokes to step up, but I will always concede that at the pointy end of the season is where Hodgo, and the team, hit their straps

Can Starling possibly start? Is he a big minute hooker?

He didn't play over 30 minutes last year and with no lower grades I doubt he could manage more than 20 minutes defending in the middle, especially given his size.

Confirmed both Hodgo and Bailey gone for the season.

Josh Hodgson and Bailey Simonsson ruled out for 2020 season

Josh Hodgson will miss the remainder of the season after scans confirmed a ruptured ACL. He will have a surgical consultation this week to determine when he'll have surgery to repair the ligament.

Its also disappointing news for Bailey Simonsson, with his shoulder injury worse than first thought. He will also meet with a surgeon this week and will most likely require surgery which will end his season.

Bailey Simonsson could join Josh Hodgson in season-ending surgery in blow for Canberra Raiders

"I'm no Josh Hodgson." But they're the boots Siliva Havili will have to fill for the Canberra Raiders.

"It's big, he's a big part of our team and a big-name player. He's our skipper and it's big shoes to fill," Havili said. "It's my primary position and I came here as a hooker. I'm no Josh Hodgson. I'm going to be myself and play to my strengths and do what I can do best.

What the actual ****

Hodgo obviously no surprise but Bailey?

This season is cursed I'm convinced. That makes Soliola, Hodgson, Horsburgh, Guler, Bateman and Simonsson all long term injuries. 6 players from our GF team, plus Sezer and Leilua which takes it to 8. No continuity whatsoever.

I think we only have 19 fit players. If that's right I believe they can just name two injured players for 20 and 21.

Maybe they should raffle off being named 20 and 21 to members.
