Re: Canberra Raiders premiership favourites?
There's logic to it. Of the top 3 in the market, compared to last year the Raiders look stronger in key positions while Roosters and Storm are not. Very even comp on paper though. Those top 9 teams all have a squad capable of winning the GF. As is always the case it will come down to injuries and form at the back end of the season.

Listened to Thirsty on the Continuous Call yesterday, and he went through why he has the Raiders as premiership favourites.
Re: Canberra Raiders premiership favourites?
As always it all depends on the referees. I can see the storm being very difficult to beat. Unless the referees penalise the storm out of games they will still rule/ruin the ruck.

Canberra Raiders the obvious choice to knock off Roosters
The Raiders are the favourites to be crowned NRL champions this year, making up for their controversial loss to the Roosters in 2019.
"If Canberra did have an Achilles heel it was on that right edge with Aidan Sezer and Joey Leilua. Sometimes they didn't work together particularly well. I like what I saw from George Williams in the first two weeks alongside Curtis Scott," Peter Sterling said.

Re: Canberra Raiders premiership favourites?
Ricky Stuart really couldn’t care less what the bookies or experts say about Canberra Raiders odds
After being written off and ridiculed for too many years, don’t expect Ricky Stuart to start cheering the fact Canberra are now the NRL competition favourites for the first time since 1994.
“Some of the so-called experts had us coming ninth, 10th, 11th and 12th last year and I didn’t care then,” Stuart said. “So without wanting to sound rude I will take it with a grain of salt if they are now saying we are the team to beat.”

Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.
Re: Canberra Raiders premiership favourites?
Agreed. We're a good team... Really good. When you factor in the upgrade at halfback, the improvements made at fullback and 5/8th with Jack and CNK taking steps forward in their development at relative new positions...
I mean why shouldnt we be favourites? The club should embrace this.
Re: Canberra Raiders premiership favourites?
Our problem is we've never handled favouritism well in the last 20 years. Not that it happened often, but 2017 was a classic example. But if we are to really be a true contender, it's time we took those expectations, handled them and still performed.Botman wrote: ↑May 18, 2020, 8:18 pmAgreed. We're a good team... Really good. Re: Canberra Raiders premiership favourites?
Yep. I hope the likes of Croker, Papa and Wighton demonstrate to their colleagues that being a bookmaker favourite means nothing. It only means that other teams will raise their performances against you.
Re: Canberra Raiders premiership favourites?
Broncos will be hard to beat with their 7 day turnarounds and 15 home games.

Re: Canberra Raiders premiership favourites?
In my mind Raiders haven't had the sustained success over a long period of time like Roo$ters, Storms and broncos, so personally I don't quite consider Raiders to be favourites right at this point in time.
I am pleased with the favourites tag though, it is a damn good side on paper coming off a strong grand final performance and 2 W's to start the season, so I can understand where the tag is coming from.
The anomalies thrown into this season surrounding Covid could potentially throw up some unexpected results given the isolated training, new travelling schedules, new rules etc. and the season is still raw so we could see the favourites list change drastically in no time. Best to embrace it while we've got it, which will hopefully be for the majority of the season.
Get around the MILK!

I think it makes sense really.
Of the top teams Canberra are the only one who’ve (arguably I guess) improved their squad.

It's 20rounds of a possible 24? that should have been played..it counts.
I'm claiming it. And I'll be crying when we win it.

I know we can do this - bounce back from the travesty of 2019. Raiders 2020. There'll be a GF crowd it would be inconcievable without the Raiders fans.

Need to factor in travel. Warriors cop the rough end of the stick here but Raiders not much better off.
