Canberra Raiders reserves readying for action

The NSW Cup has been cancelled, but the Canberra Raiders are looking to set up their own reserves games.

"We're looking at some different models of games against other teams, almost like trial games against other teams in Sydney. Or maybe the Storm," CEO Don Furner said. "Most importantly get the NRL kicked off then we'll look at what we can do with the other 12 players to give them a regular hit-out.

They cancelled NSW and Queensland Cup very early... and they may be regretting that now.

I guess the main stumbling block is that the NRL players cannot interact with the second tier players... unless they were doing everything that the NRL players are doing in terms of biosecurity measures. And the second tier players can't afford to do that, as they are part timers, with other jobs etc.

I was more talking a national 2nd grade

Add a few players to each squad, they fall under the same biosecurity measures and restrictions, catch the same flights as first grade and play at the same grounds beforehand.

Instead they're having to arrange scratch matches.. why not make it mean something

Not sure who would fund this. NRL are that desperate for cash they have dumped one official per match, saving peanuts.

Unkind to call half the refs peanuts Image

Fair, but unkind.

I'm a big supporter of our match officials and the hard work they do.

What I suspect will happen is there will be scratch matches amongst NRL players. Perhaps you will see clubs pair up so that there are 8 teams playing reserve grade matches. That seems logical.

There’s a couple of players in that side who could carve us up
Feel free to call me RickyRicky StickStick if you like. I will also accept Super Fui, King Brad, Kid Dynamite, Chocolate-Thunda... or Brad.
