Voting Open - Best TV/Movie character: Champion Announced

Post by FuiFui BradBrad »

Hi team,

Now that the season is done, I thought it was time to rehash the GH Music Tournament!
Nominations are now open for the tournament, which will be a 32 band, people's choice format.

The question I present to you all - How would you like the draw to be run?
A. Fixed - As is the way for a standard tournament
B. English FA Cup style - At the conclusion of each round, the fixtures will be determined at random, meaning

As for the entrants, The Beatles are automatically in the draw, as they are the reigning champions. 10 bands will automatically qualify as a result of making the top 10 of Rolling Stones greatest artist (https://www.rollingstone.com/music/musi ... les-29783/)

1. Beatles
2. Ray Charles
3. Aretha Franklin
4. Little Richard
5. James Brown
6. Jimi Hendrix
7. Chuck Berry
8. Rolling Stones
9. Elvis
10. Bob Dylan

The remaining 22 names are up to you. Nominations will be open until Midday next Friday, and will be based on the 22 entrants who receive the most nominations. If we get to Friday and there's a tie in the nominations, a vote will be created on Friday to finalise the list

So good luck, and get those nominations happening!

What are the criteria again? Is it who you think is the greatest artist/band of all time, or is it your favourite artist/band?

Movie: I’ll add it to the list! I also have greatest Tv show character, and possibly greatest Action Hero. I’ll be punching these out quicker than before, so we’ll get through a few

Ok so this is the list we currently have. The artists bolded are as a result of either
A. Being the reigning champs
B. Being in the original Rolling Stone List
C. Receiving multiple nominations

The Beatles
Ray Charles
Aretha Franklin
Little Richard
James Brown
Jimi Hendrix
Chuck Berry
Rolling Stones
Elvis
Bob Dylan
INXS
Queen
Nirvana
Pink Floyd
Elton John
Led Zeppelin
AC/DC

Foo Fighters
Pearl Jam
Radiohead
John Lennon
White Stripes
Kendrick Lamar
Chris Isaak
Huey Lewis and the News
REM
The Police
Tina Turner
Bruce Springsteen
The Who
David Bowie
Michael Jackson
Billy Joel
Eagles
Garth Brooks

This gives us 35 artists vying for 32 spots. If you want to guarantee a place for any of the unbolded artists, throw them a 2nd nomination! Otherwise feel free to nominate artists you would like to see in there

I think RHCP deserve a nomination. Very much out of favour these days but at one stage they were the biggest band in the world. I haven't listened to it for a long time but Blood, sugar, sex, magik was an amazing album.

Agree with Pearl Jam.

I've been more into dance music for the past 20 years so from that mixture of genres I think the Chemical Brothers deserve a nomination. So many good albums. Other EDM groups I'd throw out there are the Prodigy, Underworld, Infected Mushroom. I'm not overly into hip hop but maybe Hilltop hoods deserve to be listed. Not my genre as noted but I did see them at Splendour in the grass many years ago and it was pretty cool.

Ben Harper has some great albums and longevity.

Not my cuppa tea, but Nick Cave?

Obvious choice, just lack popularity due to anything they’ve done post about 2002.

1980-1993 they’re unbeatable for a combination of creativity, lyrics and live performances.

Hard to get rid of is because of Apple. Anyone whinging didn’t want the album in the first place, so they didn’t lose any voters because of that.

It’s a free album from one of the biggest bands of all time. Yes, it largely stunk. But the public reaction was very much crying over spilt milk.

Fleetwood Mac deserve a mention. Top of the game through 2 decades, including a big
change of style in the 80s. Hugely talented line up, with number #1’s sung by 3 different lead vocalists. And another fourth sung before Buckingham/Nicks joined.

There were a few doozies in that opening heat. In the end I went with my gut and my personal preference

White Stripes: Seven Nation Army gives me good vibes. It was at its peak not long after I first left home for Sydney. I was 18, delivering Pizzas around Western Sydney with this song cranking in the car. It was good times. Not too familiar with Little Richard

Foo Fighters: Everlong is a classic in my books. Also the first stadium concert I went to, so there was a preference. Also 1/3 of the band were from Nirvana, which changed my life

Red Hot Chilli Peppers: This was hard. I love them both, and they both hold a spot in my heart. Ultimately came down to the library of music

The Police: Not overly fussed on either. More a vote of who I was more familiar with

REM: Same as Police, Apart from Losing my Religion, not really a fan of either

Nick Cave: Hardest one to decide. Ultimately it came down to Red Right Hand and Into My Arms. Queen was a little bit before my time, and Nick Cave is just a brilliant storyteller

Pink Floyd: Classic band. One of the all time greats. Tina is good, without her, we'd have no Thunderdome, but she doesn't come close to me

Jimi Hendrix: Never been much of a Michael fan. All along the Watchtower is a classic

You just pop into the Surveymonkey link, and vote for who you think is the better band/artist in the match up.

I've decided this year we will do it FA Cup style, so each round will be a random draw, rather than a set tournament style set up
