Canberra Raiders V New Zealand Warriors
Saturday March 21 3:00pm
Robina Stadium
TV coverage: Fox League Channel 502
Radio: ABC, Mix 106.3
The Raiders have won their Round 1 clash with the Gold Coast Titans - with a superb first half performance setting up a 24-6 victory. Canberra is scheduled to go to Auckland, New Zealand for a clash with the Warriors in Round 2 - but the NRL response to the coronavirus pandemic may mean the venue is changed. The NRL has decided that Round 2 matches will be played behind closed doors, so no tickets are available.
Assuming the match proceeds... who should line up for the Green Machine? Ryan Sutton will return from suspension in Round 2. Joe Tapine was put on report for a shoulder charge in the clash with the Titans, while Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad took a head knock and left the field after an HIA. Tell us your team here and see how you go in comparison to the official squad when announced. We will include the official line ups in the first post of this thread as soon as they're available.

Don't see the side changing after that win, but we did lose our way a bit defending in the middle and Sutton works hard in defence. Most likely to drop out would be Havili.

Hardly even a penalty. Player on the back foot only bracing for impact. See it many times in every game with no action taken.

A shoulder charge when Tapine was actually moving backwards.

Canberra Raiders forward Joe Tapine cleared of shoulder charge, free to face New Zealand Warriors
Canberra Raiders coach Ricky Stuart called for the NRL match review committee to give Joe Tapine a fair go. And they listened. Tapine has been cleared to play the Raiders' clash against the New Zealand Warriors.

Canberra Raiders cult hero Corey Horsburgh looks to build on his fiery NRL debut season
With his fiery red hair, Corey Horsburgh almost epitomises the angry Viking.
“I’ve copped that since I was young so I kind of played myself into that,” Horsburgh said. “I like a laugh. I’m not angry off the field. I just try to get fired up on the field because I just love playing my footy like that. I love it when it’s physical, when both teams are going at it. You can see there’s a lot of emotion out there. I just love footy in general.”

I'll be surprised if this game happens at all. The NZ Government are imposing a mandatory 14 day quarantine on anyone entering the country from tonight.

Or else they stay in Australia play at a neutral ground?AJL wrote: ↑March 14, 2020, 2:37 pm I'll be surprised if this game happens at all. The NZ Government are imposing a mandatory 14 day quarantine on anyone entering the country from tonight.

It'll be happening in Australia, sensibly in Canberra. Will be very frustrating that the game is being played 15 minutes away... and you can't be there!AJL wrote: ↑March 14, 2020, 2:37 pm I'll be surprised if this game happens at all. It is hard to see NZ staying in Australia, they will be on the first flight home and the competition will be suspended.

It is almost certain they will base themselves in Australia, so the competition can proceed.RTW wrote: ↑March 14, 2020, 2:52 pmgreeneyed wrote:It'll be happening in Australia, sensibly in Canberra.AJL wrote: ↑March 14, 2020, 2:37 pm I'll be surprised if this game happens at all. Canberra Raiders clash with New Zealand Warriors likely to be relocated, as New Zealand implement sweeping travel restrictions
The double header involving the Canberra Raiders and New Zealand Warriors and rugby union teams looks set to be cancelled following the New Zealand government's decision to impose strict travel restrictions.
From Monday there'll be an enforced two-week quarantine period on any travel from Australia. The Australian Rugby League Commission is set to meet on Saturday afternoon to discuss the situation. The Raiders would need to leave for Auckland on Sunday to be able to avoid the restrictions.

Re: 2020 Rd 2 V Warriors: Teams and Previews
No crowds allowed so it will have to be a venue with lockable gates. SCG would be a good option for the Warriors as long as the NRL matches don't clash with the AFL games played there.

I’m expecting the comp to be suspended.
If the NBA and EPL can do it, I don’t see why the NRL will continue.

Re: 2020 Rd 2 V Warriors: Teams and Previews
Warriors players have a huge choice to make in the next 24hrs.
Leave Australia and forfeit as many games there are until the ban is lifted or stay in Australia and potentially not see their families for months and months
There is also the cost of accommodation for how ever long which someone needs to pay
Pretty sure we will not be going to Auckland now

How are they gonna redo the draw with a team isolated in another country?
Re: 2020 Rd 2 V Warriors: Teams and Previews
Create additional byes. It won’t be fair, but not much alternative. If the games stop, the broadcast dollars stop, the whole sport collapses. No one gets paid their salaries. The Warriors club reportedly wants to base in Australia. That’s the most sensible outcome.gangrenous wrote: ↑March 14, 2020, 4:22 pm How are they gonna redo the draw with a team isolated in another country?

Yeah it's a bit early for that kind of dramatic talk. It seems highly likely it will happen at some stage, but this situation is changing rapidly day by day. Who knows how things will look in a month from now.
