How to pronounce our players’ names

Post by greeneyed »

The 2020 season Guide is out and as always it includes helpful guidance on how to pronounce or players’ names.

Here are the controversial ones... and not so much...

Nick Cotric Cot-rick
Emre Guler Gool-er
Corey Horsburgh Hors-bruh
Dunamis Lui Do-narm-is
Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad Charnce Nick-ill Clocks-tadd
Josh Papalii Pap-pah-lee
Sia Soliola Sol-ee-ola
Joe Tapine Tarp-a-knee
Semi Valemei Val-a-may

I added guidance on Horsburgh, from the horse’s mouth.

Sadly no guidance on Simonsson.

Simons-Son
That’s how I say it. Yet plenty say Simm-on-son. I can’t see why you’d spell it with two s’s in the middle of that we’re the pronunciation, but there’s not always a logic to it.

That's how to say it...

On Rapana and Cotric, the list is purportedly how the players ask for the name to be pronounced.

Rapana changed how he wanted the pronounciation to Ra-pana to Ra-pina (the second reportedly how the family say it).

Cotric also explained they'd say Cot-rich in his ancestral home... not sure if wants it changed or not.

Yeah I figured it’d be the same rules as Edinburgh.

Cotric I’ve been saying as Cot-Rich
Feel free to call me RickyRicky StickStick if you like. I will also accept Super Fui, King Brad, Kid Dynamite, Chocolate-Thunda... or Brad.

If you ask the ABC, they'll call him Chotch-rich ala the original Serbian pronunciation.

Didn't that 12 days of Christmas parody pronounce it as "Nick Chot-rich in a tight T"?

Guler should be more Gew-ler than Gool-er, if we're going by how Turks would say it.

Never ceases to amaze. 257 games, 127 tries, 1,996 points, captain of the team. Still can't get it right.
