Sutton takes early plea, will miss Titans game

Sutton facing ban over shoulder charge

Ryan Sutton must prove his innocence or he will miss the opening round of the season after he was charged by the NRL match review committee.

The Canberra forward was charged with a grade-one shoulder charge offence on Monday and will face a one-match ban if he submits an early guilty plea or two matches if he unsuccessfully challenges the charge at the judiciary.

I remember seeing it live and thinking "oooof, might have a case to answer for there"

Probably best to just take the plea and keep this one moving, i doubt we'll have any conclusive video evidence to disprove the charge

Really strange that a player can get suspended in these games while suspended players are able to play in them.

Yeah it does seem illogical.

Did the expert commentators express an opinion? The NRL should take their thoughts into account.

Choc said “great tackle by Garry Sutton and Chance Klokhead has been worse in the second half since putting on headgear”.

No Sutton, Bateman, Young, Murchie, Scott (likely) and Havili (possibly).

Depth is already being tested big time. Am a bit concerned heading into Round 1.

Is there any word on havilli? he looked really good when he came on. Gave us some crisp go forward. Seemed a little bit awkward but not too serious and like they pulled him for precautionary reasons?
Seems like we have gone from a plethora of 2nd row options to a red horse roaming far wider than red horses should, quicker than you can say bateman-should-have-had-his-shoulder-surgery-at-the-end-of-the-season-instead-of-this-mess-we-are-now-in.

I initially though it was Hudson young that did the high charge, was waiting for another suspension.
The boys are going to be up against it this year... Did Bateman have this injury before the great Britain games ?

Yes, he’s had problems is my understanding, but it only became apparent early this year that they had to bite the bullet with surgery.

Same ol' NRL...
Seems logical to me:
Why should players be able to count a trial that means nothing the same as a game for points?

How could you remove suspensions and risk increased dangerous play removing trial opponents from regular season matches.

It makes perfect sense!

Still waiting for an official statement from the Raiders... but according to The Canberra Times, Ryan Sutton has taken the early plea for a grade one shoulder charge, and will miss the Titans clash and have 50 carry over points.

Thanks GE. All of a sudden our depth is tested, BJ would be handy to have in the squad still
