The NSWRL, unlike the QRL is notoriously bad at announcing squad listings and gains and losses for Cup teams.

A few teams have already listed their squads on their websites, when/are we likely to see a squad listing for the Mounties?

Mounties used to be quite good in using Facebook and Twitter to get the news out... but no longer. They have no active Twitter account any longer, and their Facebook page could be much better.

When does our affiliation end? Is there any interest in Canberra to have our own team?

They’re good rugby league people, but I don’t see that district as a good fit with our own. We don’t seem to get much strong local talent from it, the area is tied up by the Eels, Dogs or Tigers. I hope we transition to our own team, based in Canberra. But while we’re affiliated, I will support the joint arrangement.

Probably a preliminary training squad given the amount of players. Kieren Moss is a good pick up from Norths.

Good to see Robertson around there. Pretty surprised no one's picked him up. Looks like the prototype modern forward.

To be honest from what i watched last year he went well against bad sides. Big unit though. Might be missing one piece

Just a bit of muscle really. Big motor. Good game awareness. Just lacks a bit of strength which he'll gain as he gets older.
TBH feels like he'll leave the game before having a chance to develop.

I think it's a pretty big indication Lui and Guler are in the 17 for round 1, which given they both played in the GF isn't that big a stretch.

While the NRL hasn't made an announcement to this effect... they appear to no longer permit trials to be counted to match suspensions (the rule used to be you could count one of two official trials, as I recall). However, given that, the NRL is permitted suspended players to play trials. Tyrone May has been cleared to play trials for the Panthers, despite having just been given a five match suspension.

Yep. Given that Young still has a fair few weeks to serve (5 iirc) I expect they'll try and get him some time in every trial going in order to get some footy into him.

Don't think we can read too much into what's going on with Lui/Sutton/Guler/Havili just yet. Ricky usually has a curve ball or two.

Preview

Mounties head to Brookvale Oval this Sunday for a Round 1 NSW Cup clash with the Blacktown Sea Eagles. The Canberra Raiders NSW Cup affiliate had a disappointing finish to the 2019 season - after hovering around the top of the ladder for much of the first half of the year. They finished sixth, but were bundled out of the finals in Week 1, defeated 44-20 by the Newtown Jets - the ultimate premiers and State Cup champions. The Sea Eagles finished last in 2019, but they did record a couple of good victories towards the end of the season over the Newtown Jets (26-24 in Round 20) and the Penrith Panthers (42-34 in Round 24).

2019 season record: Mounties 11 and 10, 1 draw (6th, +69)
Sea Eagles 6 and 15, 1 draw (12th, -155)

2019 attacking record: Mounties 27 points, Sea Eagles 21 points scored per match

2019 defensive record: Mounties 23 points, Sea Eagles 28 points conceded per match

Form, last five matches played: Mounties: WWWLL
Sea Eagles: WWLLW

Recent meetings:
2019 Round 23 Mounties 30 defeated Sea Eagles 26 at Canberra Stadium
2019 Round 7 Mounties 44 defeated Sea Eagles 22 at Brookvale Oval

Head to head: Mounties 6, Sea Eagles 0

Our tip: It is the first match of the season, and 2019's form won't necessarily be a good guide to 2020. However, we can expect Mounties to again have a strong team in 2020 - with half Sam Williams, five eighth Matt Frawley and hooker Tom Starling leading the team around the park. They also have some good young talent in the backs - with Daine Spencer at fullback, and outside backs like Harley Smith-Shields, Matt Timoko and Semi Valemei available. They also have some good young Raiders juniors coming through in the forwards - including Darby Medlyn, Duwanye Mariner, Dan Keir and Kai O'Donnell. We'll tip the men in black and yellow to win first up.
