Who is our back-up goalkicker?
Ranking every club's goal-kicking stocks
5. Canberra Raiders
Jarrod Croker: 744/929, 80.1%
Sam Williams: 25/30, 83.3%
Last season the Raiders had a back-up kicker with a career percentage over 80%. This year with Aidan Sezer gone, there is no player in Canberra's best 17 who has ever kicked a goal other than captain Croker. Williams has never kicked other than a short stint in 2018 and will not be in the starting side unless one of the other halves is injured. Croker took every kick for the Green Machine in 2019 but had a down year by his standards, landing just under 74% – the fourth-worst overall percentage of the 16 clubs, which is why the Raiders are ranked below the Sea Eagles and Eels.

Off season clickbait article but raises a good point - who is our back-up?
Wouldn't surprise me if Bailey kicks. Dunno why I think that but his name was the first to pop into my head

Bailey and Cotric have both been doing kicking practice with Toots and Sammy.

George Williams has kicked too, though not regularly.
Re: Who is our back-up goalkicker?
I can’t imagibe Cotric kicking goals. Simonsson makes sense though.Danaman137 wrote: ↑February 2, 2020, 4:19 pm Bailey and Cotric have both been doing kicking practice with Toots and Sammy.

I think jack could kick but Ricky won't add anymore pressure on him- and rightly so

Yeah he his style of play is very ... for lack of a better way phrasing it... stiff and physical. I dont know why but i cant see Cotric with a fluid kicking motionjulian87 wrote: ↑February 2, 2020, 5:13 pmI can’t imagibe Cotric kicking goals. Simo and Georgey Boy should be putting in an extra 10-20 per day, one of those guys strikes me as the sort of guy who could do it.

Re: Who is our back-up goalkicker?
Just a hunch, no evidence, but I suspect the klok might go alright too.
Re: Who is our back-up goalkicker?
Simonsson is a 21 year old very skillful (from what I’ve seen incredibly natural in terms of coordination etc) winger trying to make his way. It adds another string to his bow.
Unless he straight up stinks at kicking it makes all the sense in the world. Putting it on George Williams who’s trying to overcome the hoodoo of English halves being no good makes no sense imo.
.......has Rapana cracked the Panasonic side yet? I’m starting to half wonder what the NRL could do if it ended a failed venture.

That’s a good point when you consider NFL failed venturesjulian87 wrote: .......has Rapana cracked the Panasonic side yet? I’m starting to half wonder what the NRL could do if it ended a failed venture.

At this rate, Bateman can’t do no wrong. Maybe he can surprise us

Re: Who is our back-up goalkicker?
From memory at one point last year Cotric, Rapana and Williams has a goal-kick off to see who was back up back up kicker. Williams won, but Cotric must at least be in the mix. It doesn’t give much of an idea of where Simmonsen or G Willy are in the mix now though

Re: Who is our back-up goalkicker?
I can only assume the order is Croker, George, and then Sam in the case George is out.
Re: Who is our back-up goalkicker?
Cotric still a smokey.
Believe it or not I taught him PE and was a pretty smooth natural athlete, even at touch games like basketball, lacrosse etc but he grew up playing a lot of soccer which he was outstanding at too. He can kick.
He was built like the proverbial even then so there hasn't been a change of physique really since he was 16.
He's not the type to push too hard for it so if G Willy has kicked at all and wants to claim some ownership, he'll get it.

Re: Who is our back-up goalkicker?
Looks like George only kicked at 64% in the main SL season he had the tee (2017), so if Cotric or Simonsson can kick, bring them on.

Re: Who is our back-up goalkicker?
Half the fun of the last couple of years has been "Oh no! Our top goalkicker can't kick! Who will we give it to? Oh yeah...another guy who kicks around 80%. HAHA SURPRISE SUCKERS."
It was why I found the Sharks' problems absolutely mystifying.
