Daine Spencer still training with the top 30. Given there are 29 players in the squad, would be good fullback depth with Mounties.
Interesting Matt Timoko also has gone to the Sunshine Coast.

He’s training in Canberra to get “some load in his legs”, given he returned on recent from his honeymoon, he was married after Christmas.

I think what you meant to say was ‘his manager is working on his 2020 contract now that the Latrell situation is resolved, and BJ doesn’t know which teams training to attend yet’.

Canberra Raiders have achieved nothing yet says Jarrod Croker

NRL grand finalists Canberra insist they have achieved nothing yet, and remain as determined as ever to break their premiership drought.

"We had a good season but at the end of the day we didn't win the comp and that's our goal," Jarrod Croker said. "A lot of teams are going to be coming after us. We've got to adjust to that, be prepared for that, and I've got no doubt we will be. We want to go one more this year.

Canberra Raiders fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad has to 'raise the bar' in NRL season

Canberra Raiders fullback Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad barely bats an eyelid as he voices his desire to raise the bar and build on a breakout NRL campaign.

"In terms of 2020, I just want to get back to playing some good, consistent footy. I know I've got to raise the bar. Last year we got to the grand final, and that's not really good enough for us.

I really hope we don’t put too much pressure on ourselves for 2020.

One week at a time is boring comment, but it holds a lot of truth.

Croker and Co. to go from hunters to hunted

Raiders co-captain Jarrod Croker knows the success of 2019 has put a target on his side's back heading into the new season.

"It's going to be a different feel for us this year - obviously a lot of teams are going to be coming after us, but we've got to adjust to that, we've got to be prepared for that, and I've got no doubt we will be.

Last time the Raiders made the finals in consecutive seasons was:

2002 8th Qualifying Final
2003 4th Semi Final
2004 8th Qualifying Final

You could argue 2002 wasn’t a good year. The Raiders only qualified after the Bulldogs were disqualified due to salary cap cheating.

You could also argue eighth in 2004 wasn’t a good season either... the Raiders were pretty much cannon fodder in the finals.

Before that, the Raiders made six consecutive finals series between 1993 and 1998.

1993 3rd Minor Semi Final
1994 3rd Premiers
1995 2nd Preliminary Final
1996 6th Qualifying Final
1997 Super League 3rd Preliminary Final
1998 7th Minor Semi

So I’d say the last time the Raiders had a good season and followed it up with a better one was 1994.

The last time the Raiders made consecutive Grand Finals, of course, was 1989-91.

94-95 I'd suggest. We had a good year, in fact really good year in 95 before we konked out in the finals when Canterbury went on a run.

True..

And we would have won the comp in 93 if Stick wasn't broken a couple of weeks out from the finals.

We tried a few different combos but ran out of puff.

We were dominating 1993.

Yep, of all the years we missed (91, 93, 95 were all golden opportunities) 93 burns the most.

But it just goes to show how hard it is to win grand finals. Last year we came close, but to really give yourself the best chance you need to make a number of them in a short period of time. Even Melbourne who have probably been the most successful team of the last 10-15 years have lost their fair share.

Yeah.

93, just heartbreaking.

We were giving Parra a bath when injury struck our halfback.

Steve Stone, Laurie Daley and Trevor Schodel all filled in.

To be fair, Laurie might have jagged a game in even without the injury ;)

Was that the year we tried Mal at #6 and Laurie at #7 to cover Stuart in one game?

Yep, Mal played #6 against StGeorge in our first semi final. I think DBoyle played centre.

So it was back in the days of Stuart, Daley, Clyde etc when we had back to back good seasons.

The Elliott years were reasonably consistent but I wouldn't regard scraping into the 8 and going out in straight sets as a 'good' year. Particularly given we were coming off a top 4 spot previously.

$85,000 buys Canberra Raiders some breathing space

Relocating their entire squad interstate to avoid the bushfires has cost the Canberra Raiders $85,000 – but the drastic measure could prove priceless.

"It could be the best money we spend," CEO Don Furner said. "The money pays for flights, accommodation, the boys get three meals a day and there was a bit of cost there with the gym hire.

Forecast is looking better in the next week, no worse than a warning for sensitive groups or better. But won’t be good either.

Yeah it will still be an issue. We haven’t had the bad smoke up here since about new year, but by the same token we haven’t had NO smoke since November. Even at lower levels it’s can be bloody painful when you are breathing it for months, or training in it.
