POLL: Strongest 2020 line up: Props
What's your strongest possible 2020 Canberra Raiders line up? That's what were asking the readers of The Greenhouse. We're looking at the "Locks and contenders" for each position in the team in a special series of articles. Some players have clearly locked down their spot but we're looking at all the contenders for places in the Green Machine's top 17. For the more contentious positions, we're supplementing the discussion with a series of polls... and in the third of those polls, we're asking: Who should start at prop alongside Josh Papalii?

I've gone with Guler for a few reasons
1) Ive said this a lot but i think he's got the most potential of those guys, there is a little bit of Paul Vaughan stylistically imo. He's big, fast, mobile and has a nice little offload game.
b) I think he suits starting over impact. He's a guy who's going to win with his motor. Hors is a great impact player, id like to keep him there
iii) Sia wasnt considered for me because i dont think he and Papalii should start together. We need Sia off the bench imo, and it suits him now given the wear and tear on his body. Lui also not considered because.... well he's not in my top 17 players.
- Sutton could be a viable option if he progresses this year at the same rate he did last year, i've got a lot of time for him. Right now, i like him at lock.

I think this is actually a pretty good thought pattern. Though, Ricky pick Guler at the backend of the yr for his impact off the bench over Sutton.Botman wrote: ↑January 14, 2020, 1:55 pm I've gone with Guler for a few reasons

Does this mean Tapine off the bench?
The coaches loooooove Lui. I wouldnt pick him, but they will.
Ive gone Sutton. He needs mins to be effective, as proven by his starts at lock. So starting makes more sense to me. It also gives you more flexibility as to when you interchange Tapine and Papalii if he is out there, as he is a big min man.

I went Guler as well as it balances best with the rotation.

My strongest lineup has our best 2 props starting and that's Papa and Sia.
Re: POLL: Strongest 2020 line up: Props
Pretty awesome position to be in when you can make a genuine and positive case for 5 different front rowers to pair papa in the starting side. Competition for spots

I'm backing Horsburgh. Surprised Sutton is polling well, I personally have Soliola and Guler ahead of him in the pecking order.

I imagine the props will rotate starting spots throughout the season.

Agree, although by finals somebody will have cemented their place in the 10 jerseyRoger Kenworthy wrote: ↑January 14, 2020, 7:15 pm I imagine the props will rotate starting spots throughout the season.

Sutton for mine. Sia and Horsburgh as impact off the bench.
Re: POLL: Strongest 2020 line up: Props
This is how I've voted.
This could some of the time also meet the wishes of those who want one of Soliola and Papalii on the field at all times - give Soliola the role Lui had for much of last year. 15 minutes absolutely flat out to start with, then replace Papalii when he takes his first break around the 50 minute mark (just thinking out loud really, not actually sure it's a good idea).

Re: POLL: Strongest 2020 line up: Props
Sutton has taken 12 months to acclimatise/find his groove and that's ok.
I'm sure he's having a huge offseason out on the paddock and in the gym.
And he'll be in the mix to start next to Papa no doubt.
But I'm riding Redhorse...

I love Horsburgh's aggression. Doesn't take a backwards step.
The experience of Soliola off the bench for mine, with the likes of Guler or Sutton.

I went Hors just because I think getting the starting spot is the kind of thing that would propel him to even greater heights.
But happy with any combo.
