Wait, normalcy restored. Paine doesn't review a caught behind. Hot spot shows a clear edge.

Kiwi batsmen have been very disappointing against a 3 man Aussie attack.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Australia raps up the Test in 4 days with only 3 front line bowlers. Wow. Starc fantastic. He played well in the last World Cup and he has played well this summer in Australia. Why Hohns did not select him to play more than one test in the Ashes is a complete mystery. How Peter Siddle got a run in front of Starc is one of the great selection injustices in all my decades of watching the game.

1stly, Siddle, aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaarrrrrrrrrrrrgh!
As for the rest, I floated the idea of using the combo of Pattinson, Cummins and Starc for the allrounder/ bowler runs for the Ashes, esp when Lyon and Hazelwood arent exactly bunnies at 10 and 11. Now, batting Paine at 6 is a worry, given he avgs 31 at Test level, but those 3 bowlers all avg over 20 in first class (as does Neser FWIW).
They wont do it, coz Langer seems to love Sidz, but if you go down this road, Im picking our 12th and 13th men from Perth. However, it also means dropping a batsmen. This article is suggesting Head, BUT, has Wade really our played him this summer? Both have a 50, and Heads was against better bowlers, and he scored half during the night session with a swinging ball. Wade is a backup keeper though, which I suppose adds a little value for injuries. Given Labu, Smith, and even Warner can bowl spin, Heads darts arent as valuable.
SO...
Warner
Burns
Labu
Smith
Wade
Paine
Pattinson
Cummins
Neser
Starc
Lyon
Sidz 12th (NO HIGHER!!! Perfect 12th man, but never again a starting 11)

Re: The Cricket Thread
Disappointing performance, we are a far better team than we showed in Perth, hopefully we can show that in melbourne where the pitch and weather should be slightly more favorable.
We'll also likely fly in under the radar a bit more after being walloped in Perth, we were soundly beaten but you take labuschajsndnafgk out and it's nowhere near as one sided, quality batsmen like smith, warner etc didn't exactly fill there boots and even though that probably means they are due so too are Williamson, Latham etc, Boult back massively improves our pace attack who were already reasonable without him

Losing the toss lost that game. Australia batted slowly on purpose. The heat was going to beat whomever bowled 1st.kiwi raider wrote: ↑December 16, 2019, 6:46 pm Disappointing performance, we are a far better team than we showed in Perth, hopefully we can show that in melbourne where the pitch and weather should be slightly more favorable.

The bowlers fought hard, but weren't threatening, bar Wagner, and yes, I'm aware Southee got a Michelle Fiefer in the 2nd dig.
The patchy fight shown with bat, is enough to prove they have it in them. However, they lost 19 wickets to 3 bowlers.
Both teams need changes, but for the Aussies it's injury only. I'm still not convinced NZ can do what they do at home, here.
Re: The Cricket Thread
Hmm don’t forget their best bowler was out. They just need some big, big runs from Latham, Williamson or Taylor. Their biggest weaknesses are Raval, Santner (though a typical just an all rounder from NZ) and I actually think Nicholls isn’t as good as his charmed start to test crickets suggests.
well, I guess you could say that I'm buy curious.

Re: The Cricket Thread
Santner is quite a good limited overs spinner. He's not a test level spinner though. Doesn't apply any real pressure on the batsmen. This is the biggest shortcoming of their 1st choice bowling attack.Matt wrote: ↑December 16, 2019, 9:04 pmThose 3 are weak linksjulian87 wrote: ↑December 16, 2019, 9:02 pm Hmm don’t forget their best bowler was out. Aussies can't get too carried away though. Take out Labuschagne and we didn't dominate their attack like we could have. Boult back in for Boxing Day will be a much tougher task. Might see our fragile batting line up exposed again like in England.

I don't ever want to see the photo's Siddle must have of Hohns. Pick a young bloke with potential and bring him into the squad. Why Siddle??
Re: The Cricket Thread
"Australia coach Justin Langer says James Pattinson is the frontrunner to replace Josh Hazlewood for the Boxing Day Test and defended the selection of veteran seamer Peter Siddle.
With Hazlewood out for at least the second Domain Test against New Zealand with a hamstring injury, Australia's selectors called up Siddle as part of a 14-player squad which also includes Pattinson and Michael Neser.
Langer says Siddle, 35, is unlikely to play unless there are several injuries to Australia's quicks and gave the edge to Victorian Pattinson to come into the starting XI."

Next they'll reduce overs to 5 deliveries, and introduce multiball.
Gina Riley: Oh, come on, John. That’s a bit old hat, the corrupt IOC delegate.
John Clarke: Old hat? Gina, in the scientific world when they see that something is happening again and again and again, repeatedly, they don’t call it old hat. They call it a pattern.

One of my junior coaches came up with a genius idea of trying to time-out opposition batsman in Under 10s. For some reason, it never quite took off.
