1. CNK
6. Wighton
7. G Williams
9. Hodgson

That's a great spine.
If all things go to plan, George Williams will be a willing and smart defender, even if he's not as stout as Sezer was, his added creativity, along with CNK taking the next necessary steps in his development as ball player in the fullback role and Wighton's continued evolution... Then this team has the class in the spine, the strike power in the backs and tough, mobile forward pack to win a comp next year.

Combine that with Souths losing Sam Burgess, Roosters losing Cooper Cronk and the potential that Cam Smith retiring and other departures... i mean those teams aren't going anywhere in terms of being good, tough teams... But at this point you'd have to say on paper they'll all be some varying degrees of not being as good as they were this year, where as we should expect to be better.

Raiders fans should be excited about what 2020 could hold for us.
Plenty of people tipping Cowboys for the 8, but I think Green lost the dressing room 2 years ago. Broncos have some talented young players, annual favourable draw and special treatment but unless they get rid of Darius they're toast... is McCullough also still there?
We have every right to be excited but the old "battered" Raiders fan syndrome kicks in.

McCullough is still there.
Souths with their current squad could drop a number of spots. They've lost Surgess, Sutton and Gurgess. They've got a very average pack. They need to make a quality (maybe 2) forward signing to have a crack at the 4.

8. Turgess
9. Cook
10. Knight
11. Lowe
12. Su’A
13. Murray

15. Nicholls
16. Sironen
17. Tatola

Parra is not known for their consistency but they are looking great on paper for next year with the addition of Matterson and RCG. I'm expecting them in the 4.

There is a squad update here

https://www.raiders.com.au/news/2019/11 ... nrl-squad/

Main addition is Semi Valemi to the first grade squad and Hingano hanging around on a development contract.

Valemi is a gun. Raiders must of went into panic mode when he was potentially heading to Melbourne.

Boom rookies and rising stars: The player who could be a breakout star with your NRL club in 2020

RAIDERS – Harley Smith-Shields

Last season’s Jersey Flegg Player of the Year has scored 18 tries in 28 games over the last two seasons in the under 20s and made strides in the NSW Cup. The 20-year-old local junior will be looking to make his first grade debut in 2020, either at centre or on the wing.

With how we've re-signed (especially if Scott comes) he's going to get a good year to develop. Won't do him any harm. 2021 could see things open up a lot. Leilua, Kris and Oldfield could all move on.

He and Valemei are why we don’t need to sign any more outside backs once we have Scott on board.

My mate within the Raiders camp reckons that HSS is the most professional player he has ever seen come through the Raiders. He says he doesn't know precisely what Cronk went through pre game, but he doubts it was any more focussed than the way HSS prepares. He reckons the guy is totally obsessed with succeeding.

The fire is lit within Canberra Raiders young gun Hudson Young

Hudson Young is determined to learn from his mistakes after watching a grand final from the grandstand.

"At the back end of the year it was really tough to watch the boys play in a grand final and those big games, those big games are the ones you dream of playing in. To miss the grand final was heartbreaking, but it also lit a fire in my stomach that will probably drive me for the rest of my career," he said in Wagga today.

NRL pressure gauge: The players who have to step up at your club in the 2020 season

CANBERRA RAIDERS

George Williams

Not many teams change a halves pairing that gets them to a grand final, but Canberra have done just that with Aiden Sezer heading to England and Williams coming in the opposite direction.

He possesses a brilliant short kicking game and isn’t afraid to get stuck in, but he’ll be under pressure to prove he is as good as, if not better than, Sezer.

Given he last played on 16 November, would it be safe to say that George won't be starting pre-season until after the new year?

Definitely not ideal prep if so, would've been great to get the whole off-season before he starts NRL. His conditioning will be the most important aspect of making a successful transition IMO.

George Williams is still on holidays, uae or saudi arabia by the looks of his Instagram, won't be here before the new year I'd say.

Looks like we are set for only 1 trial? I'd assume there's an opposed session later on too. Something to do with our late finish perhaps.

Only one trial is a good idea, they want to be fresh for finals football in September.

Yeah, I'd love for our first string boys to have a couple of short hitouts to sharpen up the attack.

You're right, the 9's almost set your preparation back a bit. Oh well, all good.

The Canberra Raiders have opted against shifting their NRL pre-season training schedule, instead deciding to train through the smoke haze as they look to avenge grand final heartbreak.
