The spiral of silence refers to the idea that when people fail to speak, the price of speaking rises. As the price to speak rises, still fewer speak out, which further causes the price to rise, so that fewer people yet will speak out, until a whole culture or nation is silenced. This is what happened in Germany.

If you do not speak, you are not being neutral, but are contributing to the success of the thing you refuse to name and condemn.

I feel like all is right in the world when Q is posting.

I see him as the protector of the interweb. When another forum needs a pick me up, he’ll go away, get that page right, and come back to the GH to roost.

Add Beetlejuice to that list as well. His return has been long awaited

Oh boy I did not realise this thread was here. Have my week:

Monday
Ruined: waking up without a Raiders win/that we lost the unloseable Test (in hindsight I wish this was the worst thing that happened this week)
Ruined: went to skating practice and my back immediately seized up

Tuesday:
Ruined: work stuff going crazy, back still hurting like the dickens, struggling to sleep
Ruined: having to withdraw from the competition in two weeks

Wednesday:
Ruined: had to go home from work early due to back, which sucks because I am on minimal sick leave and have to get a med cert every time now

Thursday:
Ruined: constantly changing meetings/requirements at work that meant I spent the whole day spinning around not knowing what I was doing
Ruined: then got pulled into the manager's office and scolded for a question I asked that morning that did not come out right
Made: physio says the back is not as bad as last time
Made: lease renewal on apartment

Friday:
Made: back feeling better
Ruined: full day of one type of work, the only person in our area not to get a bit of the other type of work, which definitely felt like a punishment for yesterday
Ruined: work favouritism issues
Ruined: still haven't heard back about a job I interviewed for. they said two weeks, it's been three
Ruined: can't find the thing I want to get my BFF for her birthday

Background ruined: my grandfather's heart issues and him being on the downhill slope

You know those weeks where everything you touch turns into a **** up? Yeah. That was this week for me. I could not seem to do anything right.

Not ruined as such, though I have to express some exasperation with some people's refusal to acknowledge practical reality.

Let's say you're on a forum, and you decide to change your name to something else. If you're going to pop up after the change and exclaim 'my name is now x' - it'd be helpful to know what your name was previously.

This is the Internet, people! If you've changed your display name and don't have a photo or something, to onlookers you may as well be a completely separate person. If you're not going to clue people in as to your old identity, there's hardly any point to telling everybody what your new name is.

Yes, you’re right. That’s why I didn’t want to change The Rickman back to The Nickman, but T_R made me do it.

If I were able to keep the same avatar it would be less confusing, but Fergus just deletes any avatar I put up these days.

It's so unfair.

For context, it was a different site, and surprisingly there was resistance to the thought. Practicality and comprehension aren't 'woke' enough for some, it seems.
