Toughest preseason ever 2020

Post by FuiFui BradBrad »

Grow a beard, grow a beard,
We’ll shave when we lose,
All in the training grounds
Rode the Green Machine.
“Forward, the Light training!
Charge for the hills!” he said.
Into the valley of Death
Rode the Green Machine.

“Forward, the Weight session!”
Have all the men been weighed?
Not though the players knew
The fridge was plundered.
Theirs not to make reply,
Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die.
Penalty for the extra cake
Ran the Green Machine.

Sticky to right of them,
Nigel to left of them,
Cappy in front of them
Pushing them harder.
Madly their instructions yell,
Boldly they ran and well,
Into the jaws of Death,
Into the mouth of hell
Pushed the Green Machine.

Flashed all their stomachs bare,
Flashed as they leapt in air
Timers and sprint coach there,
Charging a sand dune, while
All the world wondered.
Probed with a flab-test poke
Laps around the lake they broke;
Croker and Bateman
Reeled from a bad heat stroke
Shattered and sundered.
Then they ran back, but not
Not the unfit ones.

Cliches to right of them,
Cliches to left of them,
Cliches behind them
Volleyed and thundered;
Turn Bruce into a fortress they yell,
Tanks will get empty they’ll tell.
“Yeah, nah yeah” they’ll say so well
They came through the jaws of Death,
Back from the mouth of hell,
The toughest preseason yet,
Well, since the last one.

When can their glory fade?
O the wild charge they made!
All the world wondered.
Honour the charge they made!
Honour the old cliched,
Toughest Preseason!
Feel free to call me RickyRicky StickStick if you like. I will also accept Super Fui, King Brad, Kid Dynamite, Chocolate-Thunda... or Brad.

Roster rater: Your NRL club’s top signing targets for 2020 season

CANBERRA RAIDERS

Re-signing priorities: Cotric, Croker and Wighton are Raiders men through and through and are the obvious priorities. Also, the fact Leilua is off-contract could be the perfect motivation for a big season.

Transfer targets: No need to look outside given the quality and depth of this squad. The biggest target is to see continued improvement from young players like Charnze Nicoll-Klokstad, Emre Guler, Corey Horsburgh and Sebastian Kris.

They say: “We are just looking at improving on our position from last year. We have a good window of opportunity while this squad is together.” — Head of Recruitment Peter Mulholland

Our verdict: The biggest surprise of the 2019 season, and now they have their confidence back so look out. Perhaps the only question mark hangs over the latest English import George Williams who comes in to replace Super League bound Aidan Sezer.

Every NRL club’s burning issue ahead of 2020

RAIDERS

What will be Ricky Stuart’s halves combination next season?

It is a pretty tough call to change a halves combination that took the Raiders to their first grand final in 25 years, but that is what is on the cards at the Raiders.

English signing George Williams will pressure incumbent halfback Aidan Sezer for the No.7 jersey in pre-season.

UMM... Even if he only played 15mins, you pick the international of a top 3 nation over anyone else.

It's nice that our only burning issue is already settled.

1. CNK
6. Wighton
7. G Williams
9. Hodgson

That's a great spine.

If all things go to plan, George Williams will be a willing and smart defender, even if he's not as stout as Sezer was, his added creativity, along with CNK taking the next necessary steps in his development as ball player in the fullback role and Wighton's continued evolution... Then this team has the class in the spine, the strike power in the backs and tough, mobile forward pack to win a comp next year.

Combine that with Souths losing Sam Burgess, Roosters losing Cooper Cronk and the potential that Cam Smith retiring and other departures... i mean those teams aren't going anywhere in terms of being good, tough teams... But at this point you'd have to say on paper they'll all be some varying degrees of not being as good as they were this year, where as we should expect to be better.

Raiders fans should be excited about what 2020 could hold for us.

12 months ago a bunch of pundits rated our spine the worst in the league, or at least bottom 4.

Time will tell if Williams is any good. It'll certainly be a different look with two (different style) running halves at 6 and 7. Hopefully the combo works.

Leo Thompson appears to be one of the Thompson Twins!

http://www.msprugby.co.nz/site/club/new ... YYzxd4bnyg

MSP have acquired the impressive Thompson twins from National Top Four runners up Napier Boys’ High School. Tyrone Thompson was captain of that Napier team and was selected for the New Zealand Secondary Schools squad. An unusually tall hooker, Thompson is explosive with ball in hand and joins his brother Leo Thompson in the Wellington Rugby Academy. Leo is a powerfully built midfield back and New Zealand Under-18 Maori selection in 2018.

Luke Bateman and Canberra Raiders get 'fair bloody welcome back' at NRL pre-season

Rarely has Luke Bateman been so excited to roll into club headquarters for day one of pre-season - even if he knew it was going to be "a fair bloody welcome back."

"You walk in and see all these younger players and think 'geez, I'm getting long in the tooth'," Luke Bateman said. "All the blokes who played in the grand final and all of the internationals are coming back throughout December.
