7 day catastrophic event, but nows not the right time to talk about how they’ve ignored decades of warnings

Re: Off topic
I usually have the option to work from home but with negotiations peaking today I need to be in the office and warehouse to react. If we end up continuing with some form of event, I need to be loading trucks today to send tomorrow to coffs. It’s a real pain in the **** as the kids daycare is closed as well so had to find somewhere for them. Was hoping to have a decision yesterday but that didn’t happen.Fuifui Bradbrad wrote: ↑November 11, 2019, 6:40 pmYeah working from home tomorrow definitely. Stay safe everyone.
I'm on arvo and don't leave until 1pm. We've prepared pretty well for anything scary but the monster-in-law has cancelled an outing with friends, she's freaking out plenty.
There's a 2hr window between me leaving and Mrs PJ getting home at 3pm. Our suburb is very leafy and bush backs onto our cul de sac. Of course there's always a chance of a fire raring up and I'm not being flippant but the monster is throwing orders around like a general...
I'm sure we'll be fine but I'm ready to leave work at anytime later..

Not involved with the teams any more, haven’t worked in Motorsport since 2010, but in the event marketing role I have now some of our clients do these events. We had a heap of stuff to do with one of the manufacturers this week, but when the event got called today it saved some big decisions needing to be made.

How long do I have to watch the monster in law trying to get out of the passenger side door of my car using the power window button before it's not funny anymore ?
I gave it a good 20secs, she must have tried it 50 times.
So after many many attempts I put an end to it.
PJ- Is there a problem ?
MIL- I can't get out.
PJ- Try the door handle, that's the power window button.
She tries the door handle.
PJ- Magic happens eh.

Have my first sign of getting old this week. Ive had this headache off and on for over a week now. Think it’s connected to my neck, which I think I wrecked during a PT session last week.
Just got some Voltaren and hoping that does the trick.

Re: Off topic
What are people's thoughts on "You're welcome" vs "No problem" when someone thanks you?
I'm a "No problem" person, and never really gave it much thought, until I read this piece that made me think about it. Essentially it was saying "You're welcome" tends to come from a time where assisting or helping people was seen as a task not typically expected of them, so helping someone was kind of going that extra mile. So its like saying "I accept your thanks, because I know I deserve it"
"No problem" meanwhile is a more recent term, where assisting someone is expected, and the need for help shouldn't be seen as a burden
Keen to see what the GH Universe thinks. I imagine Boney is more of a "Right, now **** off" kinda guy

I use “no problem” or “no worries”, which really is the Aussie way of saying “you’re welcome”.
“You’re welcome” really isn’t used much over here, but when I’ve been to America I notice how much people say it and at first I thought they were much more polite than us, but I just realised in Australia people say something different.

Re: Off topic
We're clearly skirting around the seminal point of this topic, which is building the political will in this country to legislate the death penalty for responding to 'thank you' with 'Nah, too easy'.
Son, we live in a world that has forums, and those forums have to be guarded by Mods. Who's gonna do it? You? You, Nickman? I have a greater responsibility than you can possibly fathom. You weep for Lucy, and you curse GE. You have that luxury. You have the luxury of not knowing what I know -- that GE’s moderation, while tragic, probably saved lives; and my existence, while grotesque and incomprehensible to you, keeps threads on track and under the appropriately sized, highlighted green headings.
You want moderation because deep down in places you don't talk about at parties, you want me on that forum -- you need me on that forum. We use words like "stay on topic," "use the appropriate forum," "please delete." We use these words as the backbone of a life spent defending something. You use them as a punch line. I have neither the time nor the inclination to explain myself to a man who rises and sleeps under the blanket of the very moderation that I provide and then questions the manner in which I provide it. I would rather that you just said "thank you" and went on your way. Otherwise, I suggest you get a green handle and edit a post. Either way, I don't give a DAMN what you think about moderation.
