This award is based on performances in Test matches in 2019. James Tedesco certainly doesn't deserve a nomination.

I think the criteria for the award is farcical.

Solely on test rugby league.

Youd think such a prestigious award would be given to the best player in the world over a season.

Absolute trash award...Tommy Makinson won this in 2018.

That's right !! Where is he in 2019 ? Is he in this Lions squad ? Injured ? Dead ?

Oh..Bateman for the win.

If you include Origin and club form NRL players would win it every year. They already have multiple awards for that.

International football is a stupid criteria, but if they’re fair dinkum it should be a Tonga player that wins it.

Interesting the ratio of forwards to backs in the nominated players. My initial thoughts were that it should be over the season and not just internationals, but Edwahu is right, it would just become an NRL award. On international form I agree with Nick that it has to go to a Tongan. Teukaiaho would be my pick.

Injured, unfortunately. He's had another excellent year.

Makinson did play some good tests that year- he was definitely a standout, as was Whitehead that year and still arguably the best winger in SL.
He is injured. He was badly missed by England.

There's nothing wrong with the criteria, it's not trying to be the "best player in the world" award. It is trying to value international football by acknowledging players who turn up and give their all for their country. That's cool with me. It's an award Makinson could win, or Teddy if the Roos play well, or Boas if PNG have a boil over year or whoever.

This year I think the Tongans have been amazing and Takeiaho has been the pick among them with a couple of huge performances.

I still don't like it.

You can't tell me since this awards inception in 1984 when Wally Lewis won its based solely on test football. I've been around the block a few times. Mal Meninga won it, as did Andrew Johns(2?) , Darren Lockyer(2?), Cameron Smith and Jonathon Thurston won it 3 times.

Ok...Today it's given to the best test player, that wasn't always the case.
